Marquette leads the nation and is the only team with 7 Combined Quad 1 and Quad 2 Wins! But it will change tomorrow as Auburn will tie us with 7

I have been throwing this stat out there too but it is wrong. Memphis has 9 combined Q1 and Q2 wins (6-0 Q2). Auburn and MU are tied for second with 7.

Hoping on attrition to rise. We will (should) win the next 6 until a critical 3 game set: UCONN, @STJ, @CR
that's where we earn top 5 poll, top 5 KP, and 1-seed standing.

I think the most dangerous game before NMD is tomorrow. Thomas Sorber is awesome and Georgetown has been playing like a top-10 team when he's on the floor. Cooley has figured that out and he's playing 34.6 mpg in conference play. I'm glad they're undefeated, because they would be easy to overlook otherwise.

Another thing to note, if we're going to get to a 1-seed our biggest barrier are the predictive metrics. We need to outperform our point spreads if we want to get up there. It's not just the winning, but winning big. Otherwise, with Iowa State, Duke, and the strength at the top of the SEC, we might be stuck on a 2-seed.

DoctorV

Thanks Brew, always helpful.

So beat everyone big, lose 3x or less from now until selection Sunday, have a ton of fun along the way and get the 1 seed.

The fellas got this!

Given Marquette basketball history since the late-1970s, the phrase "stuck on a 2-seed" makes me pretty happy for some reason.

We R Final Four

Forgive my ignorance...so #1 seeds make the FF.....#2 seeds lose in the first round?

16 or 15
7 or 8
3 or 4
2 vs 1.

Similar level competition regardless. I for one would love another #2 seed. If we could get a #1 thats great. Shaka isnt going to "win big" vs the spread to get a 1 seed. He would rather get run for Tre, Zaide, DO, Caedin, Royce over the next 1.5 months which will pay dividends in the tourney.

When it comes to winning a national championship, you can do it from a 2 or 3 seed, but the odds go way down. Here are the results by seed:

1-seed: 25 (64.1%) - Last was 2024 UConn
2-seed: 5 (12.8%) - Last was 2016 Villanova
3-seed: 4 (10.3%) - Last was 2011 UConn
4-seed: 2 (5.1%) - Last was 2023 UConn
5-seed: 0 (0.0%)
6-seed: 1 (2.6%) - Last was 1988 Kansas
7-seed: 1 (2.6%) - Last was 2014 UConn
8-seed: 1 (2.6%) - Last was 1985 Villanova

Kind of crazy how Villanova and UConn are so prominent outside the 1-seeds. Of the 14 non-1-seed teams to win the title, Villanova and UConn account for 6 of those championships.

If I read my kenpom table correctly - and I'm sure someone will say if I'm not - we are now 15 on offense and 16 on defense.

Marquette is tied yet with Auburn and Oregon for the most combined Quad 1 and 2 Wins in the Nation with 7.
Marquette has the 2nd most Quad 1 Wins in the Nation with 5.
Marquette is also 2nd in the Nation in WAB.
The NET Rankings have a new metric this season called WAB — Wins Above Bubble. It's used to evaluate how many more wins a team has compared to what an NCAA Tournament "bubble" team would be expected to have against the same schedule, using the NET Rankings as the basis for opponent strength.
