The National Guard is on the ground in Asheville right now.

It was in the news here yesterday that Connecticut National Guardsmen were headed to NC.
I'm sure other states are sending also.

It should have happened far more quickly imo.

I'm not placing blame on anyone but isn't this a situation, in Asheville and other spots, where our coast guard or military could provide immediate help?  I understand it's impossible to predict exactly where a hurricane is going to hit, or have catastrophic consequences, but I think we need to reexamine our play book on how to handle these issues.  From everything I've read Asheville is in dire need right now.

WGAF there are no manatees in Asheville.

Michigan team left Thursday, arriving Friday afternoon.   I am confident they were not the only ones, as Governor Cooper declared the state of emergency on Thursday.

Yeah, Muggsy I have no idea what you thought should have happened here.

If we deploy national guard or coast guard early to where the path is projected and the lath switches, wouldn't it be more logistically difficult to redeploy?

I was only living there during the blizzard of April 1987.
18 inches of snow in Winston-Salem.
I was living there during that storm. Went up to Winterplace in WV the day before to go skiing. We knew the owner and he invited us to stay overnight and ski the next day. I said no I needed to get back for work. Driving back I realized it was going to be a heck of a storm and then of course the city was shut down for multiple days. Thank goodness the 7-Eleven was within walking distance.
I could've been skiing powder with no one else on the slopes for a couple days, but instead was trapped in my apartment in Winston Salem.

A good story never starts with, "So I decided to do the responsible thing. I went back to work to move my project forward."

You could've had a story to tell the grandkids. Instead, you were probably on Scoop all day.

I hope the telecom companies are making sure to throttle the data speeds if the emergency response teams are using more than their fair share!

Yea, it's better to be "responsible" like in a Chicago blizzard in my mid 20s.  Office closed early in anticipation of the nights storm, but instead of going home like a wise person, I caught a cab with a few friends/coworkers to one of their apartment.  It happened to be above a bar (Glascotts for all you LP vets).  Had a few drinks there before we realized "oh it's snowing harder than we thought".  Wasn't drunk but buzzed enough to think "I'll walk and grab a car" on the way, cause there were none coming down Halsted

This was a year or two pre Uber so looking for a cab.  Well we got like a foot of snow in a few hours so the sidewalks and curb were buried by plow so I stumbled down Lincoln, seeing zero cabs, dodging cars in loafers and carrying a work bag a good 2 miles back to Old Town.  I don't think I've ever had tunnel vision like I had that last half mile.  Last time I was ever cavalier about traversing a snow or rainstorm.

Great point.

Then once they are done, they can all drive out to California to rake the debris in the forests.

Things really are so easy.

Lucky to be only on the edge of the storm's path. Lots of rain, but wind gusts only about 20-25 mph. Lost power for a couple of hours. No big deal. Feel for those in Florida and in the path North-Northwest.

I'm grateful that 🇮🇱 enacted #2 from my 5 point plan, subset C, #17.  Nasrallah being introduced to darkness was fantastic.  And whoever is next in line?  Batter up.  My only regret is that the AP, NYT, and Washington Post weren't included in my plan.  Their sychohphantic words about this guy was beyond inexcusable and disgusting.  And it will not be forgotten.
