cubillan and james during the timeout
« on: February 25, 2008, 08:59:29 PM »
with 6:13 left in the first half.  What was all the shouting about by Cooby and then James?  It looked like James got in Barro's face about something?

We saw that too.  Crean always says the players hold each other accountable out there.  Maybe that's what we saw.

Hopefully it lit a fire under his ass. The 2nd half was much better than the 1st

Crean has put together a great bunch of guys.  His leadership has rubbed off on these Juniors
You heard it here first. Davante Gardner will be a Beast this year.

It's called playing with passion. It was no more than teammates trying to fire each other up. It worked too. They had much more intensity after that.

Haha, yeah that was intense.

How about right after that when they started knockin' on poor Coach Rab and his belly...haha, TallTitan, can we get a clip of that too?

hope it's accountability...because if there is beef it shouldn't be towards barro...his turnaround directly effects the teams' turnaround.

The coach Rab comments were hilarius. That crew is the best.

Did anybody notice anything unusual about the knee brace James was wearing?

Yea, he only wears it for looks so he attracts more attention.

It's all about DJ.

Not sure about that, but it sure looks like he forgot which knee he injured against Rutgers.

It was his ankle vs. Rutgers, not his knee.

it was interesting during that timeout, first DJ in Ouse's face, then Cubes in DJ's.

I saw the "discussion" during the time out and it almost looked like Cubes had to be held back.  I'm sure this is what Crean meant when he said the team holding each other accountable.  I think I read somewhere that it had something to do with Barro not calling out screens which he is supposed to do and Crean has mentioned other times that he doesn't "talk" enough.  I think this is great as long as it doesn't go too far.  It obviously seemed to work last night.  Where we don't want it to go is to blaming teammates for failure.  There are guys on that team that are very confident.  James, McNeal, Cubes, Matthews are the ones that come to mind.  On the other had Barro and Burke seem to lack confidence.  If they feel that their teammates blame them for problems it could mess up the team chemistry which seems pretty good right now.

Heck, this team still has a long way to go to match Al's teams. The players used to really go at it at the both the coaches and the players during timeouts. Check out clips of the 1977 Semi-final game against UNC-Charlotte to see for yourselves. They would also get into shouting matches and actual fights in the locker room too  - the most famous being Al vs. Bernard Toone in '77.

Players holding each other accountable.  Personally I like it.

Good stuff TallTitan!

But I was also hopin' for the part where Jay Bilas and the rest of them drew on Coach Rab's belly and kept knockin' on him, but this is definitely an awesome video.

Keep it up!

Was it shortly after this?  I don't think I caught that when I watched the game.  Granted I was stuffing my face with buffalo wings at the time.

Haha, yeah, seconds after the players holding each other accountable.

They were commenting on how Coach Rab was holding back Cubes, and then after the huddle broke up, they knocked on Coach Rab for a good minute.

Haha I'll try to get that clip.

In the newspaper Crean said he enjoyed that timeout.  I think that's why he waited to join the huddle and allowed the players to hold themselves accountable.  Great leadership by Cubes and Dom.
