Quote from: We R Final Four on January 07, 2025, 09:26:53 AMHomer is a Madison grad. Thats his first love. He has been quoted as saying "I love Marquette cuz they pay me."
maybe said sarcastically. And, Homer was a scholarship tennis player at UW. But, he's all in for MU. Absolutely no doubt. Similar to UW radio-man Matt LePay, an Ohio State alum, 100% all-in for the Badgers. I met Homer at a fundraiser probably 20 yrs ago. Homer said his interactions with Al McGuire and George Thompson...there was no doubt...its all-MU all-the-time. I mean, the guy was practically choking-up on air when DWade dropped that triple-double on Kentucky. Even his game call last game vs Creighton...epic Homer!

Agree.  It's just easier to say Homer sucks as an announcer

Options tonight if you can't make it to Fiserv:
Steve Lappas or Homer.

Some folks love certain announcers. Some folks dislike those same announcers.

That's no different from most other things.

I'm not a Homer guy; I find him almost impossible to listen to. But one of my best MU friends does exactly what a few here do - he turns down the TV volume and listens to Homer.

Robmufan and myself sat next to Homer on the flight to the first Big East Tournament in 2006.  He was great.  Took notes in his notebook and talked some Marquette basketball with us.

I have no idea what's happening when he's calling a game on the radio, but he was a great guy in person.

Once upon a time, Homer posted on here and on the Dodds site soliciting questions for his radio shows.

I like Homer as a host/interviewer.  I get lost when he's calling a game because I rarely know time, score and place on the court of the basketball.  His flow on play by play is lacking something.

Not to mention he's got a voice made for mime.

Nope....not sarcastically.
But as 82 said, some think he's great....others don't.

Agree.
A PBP announcer should be unnoticed.
The exceptions are when they are subpar or, much more rarely, exceptional.

I'll be the first to admit, though, that I am unusually picky about announcers and when I discover a voice, phrase, or mannerism that displeases me, that individual is dead to me. I can count on one hand the number of color analysts who don't annoy me in some way.

This is my burden as a sports fan.
That, and rooting for the Bears.

Agree! Enjoy listening to Homer on our rides back from the games!
