that "drinking the Kool-Aid" is a really STUPID phrase? Just heard a guy on Rome say he's not yet "drinking the Lakers Kool-Aid."  It sounds ridiculous. Just me?

It's a historical phrase that goes back to Jonestown decades ago.  It's just stuck through popular culture.

Which is why it's so great.  Jim Jones, the leader of a ridiculous cult,  was able to convince his flock to ignore common sense and rational thought and drink the koolade.  The perfect sports analogy if you ask me.

I understand the historical nature of it, but I also dislike it.  I've always thought it sounded silly and can't bring myself to say it.  And the whole James Jones thing is such a terrible thing, that I think it would be better to get rid of the phrase for that reason alone.  Other phrases I wish would be eliminated;

1) "If I told you, I'd have to kill you".  Its not particularly clever and its such a cliche that its just a waste of breath.
2) Any broadcaster that says - particularly of a college player - "as good of a footlball player he is, he's that much better a person".  The phrase is used so often during a college bowl game, that it makes me want to puke.  How well does any broadcaster know these kids?  Its beyond ridiculous.
