Al referred to Earl as "the black Jerry West".

Jerry West checking out early to avoid seeing another Celtics championship is god-tier hater.

RIP, Logo.  He and Wilt were my first basketball heroes as a kid.  Most beautiful shooting stroke I've ever seen.

Calvin:  Nobody thinks I'm a genius.

Sad news. RIP Jerry West.

Saw an old clip of him wondering what people would say about him after he was gone. He said "good guy, and he cared" would be enough. Classy, modest, and to-the-point.
Wild horses couldn't drag me into either political party, but for very different reasons.

Classy? Yes.

Modest? Not quite. I loved it when he talked about how certain guys were dogs. Every team that wants to win needs a dog. West said 'I was a wolf. I ate dogs for lunch'.

West was one of my favorite players. Have discussed him in many threads here over the years. Was an incredible athlete both offensive and defensive, "Mr. Clutch" and a team player. He is the NBA Logo.

West was another guy who understated his height. Was actually 6-5 and could touch 16 inches above the rim. So Muggsy how about that vert...

His career as an NBA executive was superlative as well. Architect of Showtime and was an important leader in many organizations not just the Lakers.  Inducted into Naismith Hall of Fame 3 times.

Herman,

I read that Mr.West slept with a shotgun under his bed because his dad was a colossal scumbag who abused his mom.  He had a much rougher upbringing than I
realized.  How would you compare him to Oscar Robertson?

This is from Magic Johnson on West

As to comparisons between West and The Big O , in their day they were unquestionably the two best guards in the league. Both incredibly athletic in their own way

In those days it was a big mans league, so neither got a Championship until they were paired with Wilt and Kareem respectively.

Big O was a triple double machine. Had a thick body and incredible court vision. Pump faked a lot inside. West long lean and ran it up and down the court and had great leaping ability.
