Great move for Hurley, UCONN, and the Big East!

I agree - a really good day for the Big East.

Juan Anderson's Mixtape

We've reached the point where college coaches can make a ton of money and turn down NBA jobs.

Jockey

I thought we already had a thread for this, Muggsy.

As much as I wanted him to leave, I also wanted him to stay. Good for the BE - now let's hope they get the TV deal done.

Honestly, would you want the headache of coaching Lebron and then being forced to draft his son?

Most people could. Hurley isn't most people.

mu_hilltopper

Agree Hurley staying is collectively good for the BE, but .. individually bad for every BE team looking up at UConn every freaking year.

So, yay?

Are you saying we aren't good enough?
We are second tier?
What would Al say?
What would Tyler Kolek say?
What would Shaka say?

Yick!

LA is a thousand suburbs in search of a city. It's claim to fame is how much time its residents spend parked on the 405 commuting from Century City to Orange County.

Never been a fan of the place -- and have had offers to work and live there.  No thank you!

Hurley knew better!

Well, you only got 5-year, $70 million offers, so no wonder you turned them down.

Happy Hurley is staying in Big East

Some takes from Dan Patrick today
Hurley has cracked the code of college bb
Hurley on recruiting trail today. In a top recruits home, his sales pitch will be "I would rather coach you than Lebron."
Seems like everything is coming up Hurley these days.

Wonder if he also told his close personal friends he was leaving for those greener pastures before turning them down.

I think with NIL, and the position UCONN is in, he can fill any weaknesses on his team with transfer players that aren't particularly happy with their current team.
He is on the top of the transfer player food chain.

With that said, I still prefer Shaka's method of player development and team development.

Some reports are that Lakers offer was very similar to what Kentucky offered Hurley. If true, then Lakers screwed up gig time and/ or Hurley is using other offers as leverage with UCONN.

Sounds like they low-balled him and he made the smart choice.

Additionally, Lakers have a habit of paying 5 years salary for 1-2 year coaches.

Hurley will replace Steve Kerr or Pop in a few years... that's why he took the interview, and that's why he rejected the job.  Now it's a certainty that when a good team comes along he'll get another chance.

The Lakers haven't had a coach longer than 3 years since Phil Jackson.

I think it's not just a matter of being unhappy.  There are a lot of players every year that are late bloomers or don't get the attention in HS and wind up at a low- or mid-major in college.  UConn would be a serious upgrade.  For that matter, UConn is probably an upgrade to every team in the Big East.

You might be perfectly happy at East Carolina or Rutgers, but c'mon, if Uconn expresses interest in you, you're going to at least listen no matter how happy you might be.

Got to give them credit for the bubble championship, but not a model organization since Phil left. Cowboys of the NBA?

Sure, I can believe this.  Will be tough to dethrone UCONN, but I believe in Shaka and his process.

Listening to him talk about Shaka, I'd be surprised if Hurley was talking to guys not in the portal about transferring.

He must be every bit as bright as his uncle if, after 20 years, he hasn't been able to figure out an "exit plan."

I always thought the exit plan was just leave.  Didn't know people were being held hostage in CA.

Might have to have Squeal Team Six extract rocket's nephew.
