Rolling into the NBA finals...... Are you claiming a new member to the Marquette NBA Champion club regardless of who wins?

On one hand, we have Sam Hauser that spent quiet a few years here that is in the rotation with the Celtics.

On the other we have O-Max that probably isn't going to play and accumulate DNP-CD as his biggest stat.

One started his career here and transferred out. The other started his career somewhere else and transferred in.

MUfan12

Nah. OMax or nothing.

Sam is Virginia's now.

HELL no. And thankfully MU's Instagram page only congratulated OMax on making it to the Finals.

Sam could've been an all timer. Instead he became a nobody at MU and worse than that at UVA. Jumped on the bandwagon of a reigning national champion and got upset in the first round his one year at UVA. A total afterthought both places now.

I doubt he cares.

I mentioned this years ago, but Travis Diener stated that Sam was one of his all time favorites while he was on the Homer show. Granted, Sam was still at MU, but Diener could not speaking more highly about Sam. I am still a Sam guy.

That said, I would prefer Omax win the ring, regardless of if he plays or not. He was a major part of the rebirth of MU basketball and that trumps my feelings about Sam.

Ha!  Agreed but I'll still weigh in.

Sam does not care to a point.  But there is something special about how we all feel about our Alma mater.  And that is a part of who we are.  I think the players who leave MU also have a love for our university (as they would if they went to another school).  It's part of their identity.  Coming home for a game and being treated like an all time great would be very rewarding, I would assume.  Denier, Wade, Novak, Crowder, Mathews, etc. appreciate it I'm sure.  Sam will never have that.  He torpedoed what could have been a special season.  He will never be an all timer at either of his schools and that leaves a little bit of a hole in his life resume no matter how successful he is at the next level.

Juan Anderson's Mixtape

Not rooting for Scam Hauser.  But his transfer was a shock a smart program could overcome.

But of course, we had a Wojo program. Still 2 years away from a Smart program when he left.

I see what you did there.   Chef's kiss.

The Mavs can't win unless they activate OMax and play him at least 25 mpg!

Sam's exit almost certainly led to Wojo getting the axe without the leash he may have gotten with a better outcome Sam's senior year. In the end he was vindicated. Did the program a favor as well! Thank you for Shaka, Sam!

Box score shows a DNP for Omax. It looks like he suited up. Has not been in box score the previous series.

No wonder why they were able to at least stay within 30!

Omax was available for the first time since 4/21 due to a bad ankle sprain.

Honest question....does MU choose to not acknowledge Sam or did Sam tell them not to?

I don't know, but I'll respond with another question: What would you have MU do to "acknowledge" an athlete who left the school under not the greatest conditions?

Why would they?  He's listed as a Virginia grad on his NBA roster.

I think KO left under less than ideal circumstances and I still appreciate what he did for the program we love. I would actually say KO's departure was a bigger kick in the balls. If I can forgive a grown man, I can forgive a 20y player.

Forgive is different than apathy to me. I bear Sam no ill will, I just don't care about him no different than any other NBA player who doesn't have an MU degree (or finished their career at MU).

Back when I was a student I worked for Phonathon (the annoying calls we all get) and when we'd call a transfer, they'd laugh then hang up or say "take me off your list I left your school" or other choice phrases that were not particularly friendly. Transfers don't care about MU why should MU care about them?

KO did what coaches do - leave for more money and for what is perceived as more prestige.  It happens all the time to all but the top top top of the college sports food chain. Heck, it happened to Kansas with Roy Williams.

As for Sam, it's not about "forgive." The question the poster asked was: "Does MU choose to not acknowledge Sam or did Sam tell them not to?"

I'm wondering how MU is supposed to "acknowledge" Sam. Would you like to see our alma mater acknowledge him, Goose, and if so how should they do it? Should Marquette similarly acknowledge his younger brother, Blankson, Cheatham and others who left Marquette to attend schools they preferred? Should UNC-Asheville acknowledge Rowsey somehow?

I'm being serious.

Omax. Have nothing against Sam, but I don't consider him an MU guy anymore sadly. Many probably feel differently about these guys and times have indeed changed, but I also don't really consider Cain or Theo MU guys either. Have to finish your career here otherwise it's a bit awkward.
