Sounds like attendance records being broken again at Lancaster.  Course is really showing off.  Proper test.

Minjee starting to buck

Minjee has some serious game.  I thought she was taller.

If it was setup like this for the men, there wouldn't be enough fainting couches available for those pampered &@$!?

Co-leaders through 3 rounds are 5 under par. Last 3 men's U.S. Open Champs finished 6 under.

Wyndham Clark finished -10 last year.

Anyway, men golfers have been ripping the USGA for decades, which is the genesis of the post.  Those pampered $/&: complain about the USGA and their setups yearly

My bad - 3 before Clark were -6.

Should be a fun finish.  Sounds like 16 might be moved forward to be a drivable par-4.  Where will they put the pin on 12?  18 has played hard.  Any pin towards the front will make it dicey for someone needing birdie or par to win.

Andrea Lee looking to fulfill the promise she showed as an amateur.  Minjee gunning for her 2nd in 3 years.  The Smiling Assassin looks for major 2.  Yuka Saso after her 2nd US Open and the unlikeliest winner could be Wichanee Meechai.

Can't see anyone running away with it.  Pulling for Andrea

12 pin placement.   Oof.   Reminiscent of the Sunday pin placement on 12 at Augusta.

Pin on 17 is a fun one, too.  Players can get to it and have birdie chances but if they're short, that's a tough up and down from that bunker

Still not sure why playing a tough course under tough conditions is any more of a challenge or disadvantage for the best golfers than it is for golfers who aren't as good.

I signed up to volunteer as well. Have not heard back, but I will attend either way.

I mentioned last year that I attended MU' tournament at Erin Hills last Labor Day weekend and highly recommend it. Will be back out there this year.

Going to be fascinating watching the women play there.  Long irons and woods into those greens will take real creativity.  Weather might be dicier than when the men were there in 2017.

The leader has ice water in her putter and will probably hold on.  That's the bottom line because of the stone-cold Saso.

Great performance by Yuka Saso.  2 US Opens at age 21.  Impressive stuff

a couple of years ago, Mrs rocket and I won our club"s couple's match play.  yesterday we missed the cut.  I am not by any means comparing our stuff to women's us open, but golf- it's the way the cookie crumbles.

we had some horrendous holes but were still in contention until the par 3, 16th hole.  we each hit decent shots, but each in a sand trap.  mine, pin high, but fried egg into the embankment.  it almost bounced out of it's lie, and if it does, it rolls to bottom of the trap and I have a fairly routine sand shot.  it stayed and I had one foot in trap and one in sand, with ball at mid thigh level.

I don't care who you are, the % of getting a decent shots off onto a tough green ain't good.  I fly the shot over the green, into some crazy thick rough getting ready for wsga state amateur in a few weeks, semi-behind a small Adams crab tree, 10 yards off the green.  3rd shot on but rolls down severely banked green and rolls just off leaving me with a 25 foot uphill putt on stimp 13 greens.  3 putt for a 6.  finish out 17 and 18 with net par on 2 of the tougher holes on the course.  yes, the last one, #18 ya'll watch people 4 putt...f'em, we 2 putt,  and miss the cut by 2 strokes.

I've come closest I've ever come to holes in one multiple times on this hole on #16

being able to write about this, this morning has been very cathartic and therapeutic for me-thank you!

da game of golf can be cruel, but ya gotta move on eyn'a

That's a fun story and I'm glad you found that telling it was a cathartic release.

But it still doesn't explain why a tough course and/or tough conditions would hurt the best pros more than it would hurt pros who aren't nearly as good.

It's Nelly Korda's fault that she turned into a hack like you or me on #12, not the course's fault.

how they hold it together during/after a hole like #12 takes A LOT of self control.  those kinds of holes, i've seen a few clubs helicoptering into ponds before.  none of mine of course, golf clubs ain't cheap

A buddy of mine once chili-dipped two chips and, after the second, helicoptered his wedge onto the clubhouse roof. One of the funniest things I've ever seen on a golf course.

Hot tempered buddy, tops a 3 wood, snaps it.  Next swing, tops his hybrid, snaps it.  Same buddy bets us he can go a whole season without snapping a club.  He lost the bet on his 3rd hole of the year.
