Musketeer, have no fear.
« on: March 09, 2024, 06:51:16 PM »
1.  23-8, 14-6. Another great regular season. Didn’t win a BE Title, but pretty much where most of us thought we would be, and without Tyler for 3 games.

2. 12/17, 4/6 from 3 for 30, 9, 5. Kameron Jones, what stars do when stars go down.

3. 24 on 11/15. Career high. Osasere Ighodaro, what stars do when stars go down.

4. Stevie Mitchell, clutch? Huge 3 at the end and wanted the ball to go to the line, and delivered.

5. Shaka is amazing for Marquette.

6. Nice contribution from Benny in the 2H. Tre was good at times in the 1st.

7. Jop and Chase have to be better in elimination games. Jop made a big fade away in the lane. Chase battled on both ends. This team needs better though.

8. Bring on NYC. I’ve been vocal in the BET no matta crowd, but that’s our title to defend. Go get it.

9. Two weeks from now will be a whole new world, one way or the other.

Let’s f’ing go, We Are Marquette!!!

BET should be fun. Have an odd feeling we will play DePaul.

Chase needs to attack the rim more. I’d love to see him try to dot somebody, seems to be looking to get rid of it no matter what after two dribbles.

I do not believe there is a consolation bracket.

Winning on the road at Xavier against a quality coach like Sean Miller is always an excellent win.

The announcer was correct , our whole team will build off a win like this .

MU is a Whole is greater than sum of parts team and todays win got the team back in that mode.

Kam and Oso were huge.  Great players showing leadership, toughness and skill.

- Stevie’s contributions came late, but were huge.

- Ben made some clutch baskets.  He adds a different dimension when hitting 3s

- Need more from Jop.  His energy is so much different when he’s scoring.  Today he didn’t score and didn’t get back on defense.  I do not question anyone else’s intensity but some times, he just doesn’t bring it.  Today was one of those days.

Jop saw the 3 pointers weren't falling.
Took fade aways in the lane and hit them.
Tough game for him, but he came through.

Even Shaka mentioned that after last game.  And rebounding.   So mabe this is the beginning of fixing it

Maybe.

He only made 2 shots, so hit them seems extreme.

Big shot late is likely what you remember, but he was really poor today on both ends.

Tomorrow is a new day, and Marquette needs him the next 2 weeks

He doesn’t seem to be crafty enough around the rim to get his shot off. He can’t seem to get to the rim in traffic either.  Needs to work on his handle.  He seems to be a catch and shoot three and D player with a couple of wide open dunks thrown in occasionally.  Any fast break with a defender seems like a turnover waiting to happen.  Hopefully he continues to develop. This offseason will be a big one for him.

MU seemed to score on every possession to close the show today.  Under the circumstances that was pretty damn impressive.

I was thinking this morning that in the BE as it existed in the 7 seasons from 2014-2020, MU would have won the conference title outright with a record of 14-4.

You’re joking of course, right? Those players just want their season over. Plus, the talent level is so far below Big East level, it really isn’t conceivable even if they found motivation. No way it isn’t Providence on Thursday.

This is being extremely generous.  Two baskets, 0/5 threes, 0 rebounds or assists, but “he came through”? He was awful.  Yeah, one make was down the stretch, but not like it put the game away by any stretch.

I thought Shaka did a much better job of spreading the minutes around to avoid fatigue at the end.  I think that's part of why MU won.  And that was not as easy as it sounds with only an 8 man rotation and Joplin clearly off while playing only 18 minues.
