The Kolek update is incredibly encouraging.  I'm extremely bullish on Tyler rejoining the lineup soon.  He's already riding a bike and lifting weights.  It sounds to me like an ephemeral situation.

Shaka confirmed Oso and Chase were both sick on Saturday and feeling much better.  There's plenty of optimism for tomorrow night.  I can't wait to attend this game.  I just took my employees to Houston/Cincinnati in what was a tremendous atmosphere.  I'm betting tomorrow is even better.  Let's go MU!

This is probably the PTSD of Marquette postseason luck over the last decade or so, but does anyone else find it slightly concerning Shaka wasn't willing to elaborate on just 'what' the injury is, when asked? And the fact he's going from "it would be a miracle" for him to play this week at all, to absolutely possible just 4 days later? I obviously hope I'm wrong, but there is a part of me that is slowplaying this to keep our seeding in line and not give teams an edge to game plan around....

Not at all. I took his response as "it's none of your business". I thought it was kind of a lame question honestly

No. He specifically mentioned lifting weights. Any type of weight lifting can be strenuous on the core so I assume he truly is getting better and better at a good pace.

No reason to disclose exact specifics of the injury.

What were the weights? MU82 crushes 3 sets of 20 when it comes to 3 lbs dumbbells, but Tyler could do that from his casket

Oblique strain.  One week isn't enough.  Hopefully, two weeks are.  Kolek is doing some work.    What are you looking for?

I don't think it really matters what the weights were.

He couldn't pass a basketball last week and now he can lift weights.

Like I said, more than likely bad memories from so many promising teams that dealt with injury, including last year that's causing a fair amount of skepticism. Appreciate you guys having a better sense of optimism! Here's to hoping it's my overthinking.

There was nothing wrong with the question. It was a reporter fishing for more information, which is his job. There also was nothing wrong with Shaka's answer.

I was optimistic about Kolek (and Oso, for that matter) yesterday, and I'm doubly optimistic today.

Disagree. "What exactly is the issue?" after the information that's been made available is a lazy and dumb question. Like Shaka is going to go into a deep explanation of the medical diagnosis.

You don't know that unless you ask.

I'd need a physical therapist here to weigh in - but I'm not sure that's how it works with muscle strains.  I get the impression slow movements (like weights) would be easier to handle than fast twitch passing or shooting.

And yes...I do think it matters what the weights are too.  Nonetheless, I'm hopeful he can return for the NCAA tourney.

Heard he ripped of 22 reps at 225 on the bench in honor of the combine.

I do crush those, yes. I have a feeling Tyler has crushed a beer or two as well.

Just like Travis would do. That's part of why we need to be sure that Tyler plays in the first game of the NCAA tourney. Especially if we play Holy Cross.
