Just a note on why I feel our crowd isn't as loud as it could be...today was a great example against Rutgers. Our cheerleaders (male) cannot start cheers or keep them going, its really too bad. Too many times with just silence especially when we are on defense. The students can start cheers but only to a point...kinda funny when students start cheers and then the cheerleaders seem to join on...
Tradition Never Graduates..

MUSF

Cheerleaders have lost any shred of relevance they ever had.

Nobody cares.  The best cheers and chants are started by the students anyway. From what I have seen, this is not unique to MU.

But seriously, who cares?

Daniel

There were only a few instances today where the crowd was loud - ont he behind the back pass and score, on a couple of the ally-oops etc.  But on defense, very quiet - and that's when you need it to be loaud to rattle them.

Then again, late in the game with a 25 point lead, people have a tendency to relax and stay quiet.

Nice win tho.

I don't know of any other team that does what the Memphis dance team is doing.  When Tennessee is on offense, they are waving their pom poms and jumping around very close to the baseline trying to distract the players.  I'd rather have quiet cheerleaders than classless ones.  But I guess that's a mid-major for you.

That was great-when Tennessee was shooting the free throws with 9 seconds left, one of the dancers was waving her pom poms and hopping around, and the ref shoved her back out of his way.

Thats what happens when they give the students the worst seats in the house.  If you look at many of the loudest arenas in CBB they are either much smaller or give students great seats along the court.

Daniel

On the student seating, I agree - you look at Duke, NC etc and the students have the first 8 - 10 rows behind the benches all along the court - so the cameras are constantly picking them up and it looks like a rabid crowd, and they are distracting to the opposing team - the are behind the opposing teams beanch, and right close to the court the whole 94 feet - great idea.  We should do the same - Fr. Wild might have to sit somewhere else tho lol

MUSF

I have been to a couple UNC games at the Dean Dome, and their student section situation sucks.  They do give the students the first few rows behind the basket but it is a small number of seats.  They have a second student section behind one of the benches but not on the court.  The band is next to this section.

I did not think the Dean Center was a better atmosphere than the Khol Center or the Bradley Center.

For all the hype, it was definitely a dissapointment.

The problem with putting students on the side is we dont have a consistent base that comes to the games to fill up a side...sure u can shrink the student section but i dont think thats the answer.  Many people look at the schedule and see rutgers as a push over, so they come to come, and thats it.  When the student section is filled, like pitt, its an incredible home court advantage

Muhoops85

Personally, I don't care about what the cheerleaders do, although I do like this one.

As a group, it's the hottest bunch I can recall. You talk about a program on the upswing!

As for the male cheerleaders...who cares? They're window dressing there to hold up the girls.

Just kidding.  Nice picture whoever took it.

to know how bad they are, watch the cheerleading championships.., U of Delaware is amazing!  Talk about energy- and the Memphis dance team used to be too hot for prime time.
