Is Dwyane's gift story buried in another thread?

ChuckyChip

I had asked in another thread but...

What are the details on this "new basketball practice facility"?

Is this the new Rec Center?  Something else?  Is the AL being replaced?

21Jumpstreet

Across from the AL on 12th next to AHPRC, will house new locker rooms for soccer and track and field, too. It will also be the offices of academic support and will allow for bigger sports medicine. AL will be home to WBB and WVB.

The facility hasn't been "announced" yet, so it's a bit confusing. I think they are working on the messaging to alleviate some of this.

The Sultan

Yeah this has been in the works for a bit. MU isn't going to make official announcements until they are sure they have most of the money to move forward. My guess is they feel more confident about that now.

Not sure what you mean by "officinally announced" but it was revealed at the tip-off events with drawings and details. I think I posted those here. Scholl also said fundraising was well along back then.

WhiteTrash

All the intended uses of the gift are terrific. A very generous gift to MU and the community. Great person and he could "ball" some too.

It's too bad his MU number was 3 instead of 99.

55 is the largest number it could've been during his playing days.

With the caveat that the importance of aesthetics is debatable... but man that building is looks booooring.   But hey, I can't afford to donate much to change that, so who am I to judge?

The Lens

It's been public knowledge for awhile.  They talked about quite a bit at the Tip Off Luncheon and had renderings there to look at.

TL;dr

• WBB + WVB stay at the Al
• MUBB gets it's own dedicated space on what was Schroeder Field --- The big win is side by side practice courts
• A few non rev sports will move into this expanded building from the Old Gym

Why is side by side courts a big deal ?

I don't know but it's been on the coach's wish list for multiple administrations. I did a few tours of the Bucks new facility while it was under construction and each time it was pointed out to us like we were suppposed to be impressed.  And this is just after we saw a multi-million dollar chef's kitchen, heated under ground parking and locker rooms that look like a Kohler show room (that also have a full barber shop).

During 5:5 scrimmages others can work on drills, rehab or shooting. Also, Crean built the walls at Kasten right next to the court to toughen up his players on loose balls or some such nonsense. With two courts now, there is also room to store the tackling dummies and karate blocks.

Very hard to get lost in the fight when there is only one court or two courts that aren't side by side.

Dr. Blackheart

Tom Crean's $100,000 donation just arrived. It's so big, a second court was needed.

Ha. So that answers the question in the Buzz thread of where he might be off to next. https://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=65584.0;all
