Sorry for the clickbaity title. I realize there are more issues right now with this team than simply shooting. That said, so much of it is indeed the rims looking like thimbles right now to our shooters.

My good friend played D1 hoops (he was their Jeff Zavada) on a National Title winner. He trains Chicago area HS players with an emphasis on improving their shooting form. When he watches Marquette, he says that we don't have a pure shooter, as if that's not obvious. He also said we've got some guys with unconventional form, but that it's so hard to change even HS players' shots, let alone at the college level.

So if our shooters are going to dance with who brought them and not work on their form mid-season, what if anything can they do to get confidence back? Is it simply reps? Do teams ever use what I call Great America or amusement park rims (smaller circumference)? I've had some success as a single digit handicap golfer putting on the practice green to holes about half the regulation size and while I still miss my share of putts, at least the hole looks and feels so much larger when you get out on the golf course.

I truly feel that our perimeter shooting will majorly improve as the season goes on. In the meantime, here's to using every trick in the book to get those thimbles looking like hula hoops by NCAA tourney time.
