Is there anyone smarter than me and better at finding numbers able to compare last year's transition offense to this year's transition offense?  Feels like we have been AWFUL in transition.  A lot of 3 on 2s or 2 on 1s that result in no passes and a guy just running straight at a defender and trying to make a contested shot at the rim through contact.  Chase reminds me of Jerel in transition.  Tunnel vision on the rim.  Kam's incredible ability to finish at the rim seems to go out the window in transition.  Even Kolek seems to miss a lot at the rim in transition.  Obviously not having OMax hurts.  He ran like a gazelle and finished above the rim or got to the foul line it felt like.

Not sure if it's just eye test or if the numbers would actually agree with that.  Just feels like we've been really bad in transition this year.

No idea on the actual numbers, but I agree with you. There has been far more selfish play then we have seen in the last two years. Making baskets is contagious and so is selfish play. Up to MU on getting that fixed. IMO, I am hoping that Shaka is letting guys figure things out and get back to moving the ball. Right now, there are at least 4-5 guys dribbling too much and not looking to move the ball. For the record, I would put Kolek in that camp as well.

Last night was horrible and hopefully the low point of the season. I expected a few clunkers along the way and last night was beyond a clunker. IMO, this Tyler Kolek's team and he needs to lead by example. I am sure he is playing to get to the next level, and I get that to some extent. That said, he needs to focus the team on winning games and playing off guard.

The passing has been pretty bad overall also.

I think the passing is off because guys are dribbling too much. Watch their good games and there are possessions that will have 3-4 passes with the ball not touching the court. Sean Jones needs to dribble less, Joplin needs to dribble less, Oso needs to dribble less and Kam needs to dribble less. Passing makes for pretty basketball and dribbling makes for last night.

Great point.  Ross last night in particular was very of control. Whatever happened to a lateral side-step in lieu of going full throttle in a straight vertical line off the dribble?

Absolutely.  Plus it makes defenses adjust more and opens up the court from switching.

These are ll good points.   When we have transition opportunities this team has lost the "team" concept and its heads down I'm going to the hoop.   There were many opportunities in last couple of games to make an easy pass in transition and score.  Great teams do that routinely.  It is a thing of beauty.   We need to get back to doing the little sensible things again - Tyler must run the point period.  No more off the ball stuff for him.  And the remarks about dribbling omg.... What happened to our crisp ball movement that commentators were bragging about MU in the beg8nnin* if the season?  Pass the ball!  Dribbling wastes time and causes more turnovers.  Look at last night.   Back to the basics guys.

Our quick strikes after defensive rebounds are a lot less effective this season thus far. Lots of failed attempts at the rim

Transition attacks (within 10 secs of rebound, opponent score or steal) are up (32.3% vs. 27.9%)
However, eFG% is way down  54.8% vs. 61.1%
At the rim eFG% is only 65.2% vs prior year 74.1%
3's are a similar mix of attempts, but success rate down from 33.8% to 30.9%
After a rebound, we're at just 47.4% eFG% this year in transition vs. 59.6% last year
For rebound transitions.. At the rim shooting just 58.5% at the rim this year vs. 73.8% a year ago
For rebound transitions.. Treys are falling at 25.0% this year vs. 33.8% a year ago

Good stuff, Jay Bee. I have to think the two bad games skew the numbers a bit but definitely not great numbers. When watching the game, I always watch to see how quickly they the shot off and too many stretches that it takes 15+ seconds. When they are good the ball is going up quickly.

Maybe we are trying to play too fast leading to sloppy play all around.

We only had 7 assists last night. Did PC's defense take away our passing lanes or has the team stopped playing team ball. PC had 17 assists.

A.  Missed a lot of lay ups
B. Missed a lot of open 3's
C.  Oso didn't really do his dribble backdown hit an open cutter/shooter thing very much.
D.  Sean was not effective

As Al Bundy said to Peg when she asked him if her dress made her look fat: "No, it's the fat that makes you look fat".

I've heard the paint striping, shooting backgrounds and now pace are the reasons MU can't shoot. Maybe it's because MU can't shoot.

Well, we are certainly better than our percentages.  You can look at some of our FT % for reference.

Well, last night was like a car stuck on the railroad tracks and getting smashed to smithereens by a train. How's that for expert analysis?
