Is it wrong that I'd like to see him take 4-5 every game?

Shooter McGavin

You are not wrong.  If he is open, he should take them.  Only Kam is as reliable or close too as reliable

Ben should launch.  Jop seems to only have success from the corners.

DoctorV

Tyler, Kam, Jop, and probably Ben should have the green light whenever wherever.

The first 3 have proven their ability- even though Jop has struggled thus far this season he's an elite shooter- and I've heard enough from Shaka and others about Ben's ability to shoot that he's now entered that territory.

The others should take the open ones and keep working in practice

MUfan12

The guy is shooting the piss out of it. If teams are dumb enough to keep going under screens he has to take those shots.

Mu8891

Yes... TKO needs to shoot more 3s

That 30 foot dagger at the half was a thing of beauty

MuggsyB

Before tonight he was averaging 3.3 per game.  So we agree it should br closer to 5.5/6?

goldeneagle91114

The team is going to hinge on Tyler. Started 1-9. Once Tyler saw a few go through, the hoop got bigger for the entire team!!

Not so fast Muggs. I'll say around 4 per game is fair, but he takes them when he gets them is the best approach.

Let's not forget the slump he once went through. I know that's long behind us, but he's on a high shooting so you want him to be more selective and to take the open good ones to stay on that high.

I'd like to see him go back to his most elite skill, giving guys easy buckets.
Then, continue to take the good outside shot and drive and score the way he has.
That doesn't even mention the team leading 8 boards!!

Kid has it all at this level, and when he's dialed in it's tough to beat Marquette.

I suppose that's fair.  I'd like to see Oso play with more force and  fire early in games.  He was tremendous in Honolulu.  We need that Oso moving forward.

Eh...

Oso went 13,13,14,21,16 in his first 5 including the behemoths at The Maui Invitational of Honolulu.
He also had like 7-11 boards in some of those games.

I'll sort of agree with Muggsy that's he's been pretty pedestrian the last few games from a force and power standpoint, especially in Madison.

I won't hold it against him because he's great, but this team needs 13&8 from him to win the big ones, especially with 35 MPG in this highly efficient offense.

I disagree.  He picked it up eventually but dropped several passes and had a bunch of wild turns.  I'd like to see him come out of the gates much more aggressively, get touches in the post, face, attack, and score or create.  Oso is a top 5 big in the country.  Demand the rock, take no prisoners, play with zero hesitation. Just my opinion.

Though he has played many better games, Oso was good tonight. He wasn't perfect. I mean, TK had 4 turnovers. They aren't machines.

I can excuse some of TyKo's turns with the ball in his hands so much.  It might sound like I'm nitpicking but there are times it looks like Oso is trying to make the wow pass in lieu of more fundamental basketball.  Zip dimes are an art as we have seen from Kolek.  Oso has that nice little pocket bounce pass from the high or mid post, but when he's on the perimeter there's no need for sorcery.  Just move the rock and everyone goes home happy.

Oso was still the 2nd best player on the court tonight.

Second highest plus minus tonight at +22. He was 9-6-3, a steal, a block. 3 TO's. Only one live ball. One of the TO's was equally on stevie. He turned Kadin Shedrick into a pumpkin. He averaged 14.2 ppg before tonight. Shedrick had a 76 ortg. He was in foul trouble. He finished with 0 offensive boards and one defensive board for a 6% defensive Rbd%.

Numbers count for something, but in a smaller sample size not for much.

Kadin's were skewed on two big games against Louisville and Wyoming, and I suspect you knew that, so why rave about Shedrick to the group?

He got 3 fouls, he took 3 shots, he got one board. Credit all of that to Oso??
I'd have to watch the film but color me skeptical, since Oso didn't seem to be that aggressive.

He was fine, but the second best player on the court he was not, unless you put all the numbers in a blender and spit them out without watching the action.

Don't take this as a rip to what you provide to scoop- please keep it up because I'm sure many of us love it.

Trouble is there is a ton of film on it so teams prep and know it is coming now.

Yes.   So MU needs to continue to adjust, too.

Jop needs to learn to pump fake, let the defender blow by, take one dribble to reset, and then shoot. This should be addressed in the next film session.

As for Kolek, it's getting to the point where I think it's in every time he shoots. And I want him to shoot more

Yep. Muggs is purely an eye-test, knee-jerk reaction, everything's black-or-white kind of guy. He's easily disgusted and easily impressed.

Doesn't mean you're not a great guy, Muggs. But there's usually not much  nuance to your sports analysis. Either you're outraged by someone's horrible play or the Celtics are the best team ever.

If you watched that game and thought Oso was bad, I don't know what to say. He dominated his position, affected others and was a significant positive impact for our team. His biggest flaw IMHO was that he was too unselfish.

Teams plan on how to take away players' strengths. It is obvious to me that teams are trying to get Michell and Sean Jones to take threes. Shaka needs to adjust, so Joplin is more in place to take these threes. Joplin's strenght is taking threes. It is not driving for twos.

wadesworld

We played 40 bad minutes of basketball this year and we need to adjust everything we do, even after a 21 point (and really 30 point before we took our foot off the gas and TX kept theirs on it) win over a top 15 team.

Wild.

Shaka is a very good coach.  He knows what he's doing.  He didn't coach the best game Saturday and the players didn't play their best game Saturday.

Enjoy the ride.
