Tonight is for 100+ years of MU basketball

Last night getting ready for the game I texted the MS guys a picture of my brother in law from the 1967 Rainbow Classic in Honolulu and got me thinking of what is MU basketball. As some may know, my brother in law was the captain of that team and it started my love of the program that has lasted ever since. That team was the foundation of the Al era and started the greatest era in MU basketball history. That team was much like Shaka's first at MU, building a foundation.

This game is for every guy that has ever played at MU, coached, managed (shout to The Lens kin), played in the band, was a cheerleader and every fan has ever teared up hearing Ring Out Ahoya or We Are...Marquette. This program is rich in history and MU is a small school, but we are a basketball school.

I want MU to win for all those people I noted. Today would not be as special without knowing what has gone into building MU into a basketball school. This did not happen overnight or without sacrifice. Countless people have fought for this program, both on and off the court for 100+ years. Every single person is why this is special to me.

On another personal note, I will be watching the game with my brother in law and it will be a highlight of my years of being an MU fan. He started dating my sister when I was 4 years old and has been part of my life ever since. He took me to practice, road trips and chalked talked every game with me for much of my life. But more importantly, he and 100's of players have great pride that they played at MU.  I want this win for #40!!!

Lastly, since sharing personal, anyone that ever bashed Matt Carlino, fxxk 'em. That is my brother in laws nephew.

This tournament already has been a rousing success as far as serving as a notice that "Marquette basketball is back, baby!" But the folks at the arena are gonna keep score today, too, so we might as well win the effen thing!!!

I'm tearing up Goose!  That's amazing!!  This is a special day and a special team!  And collectively they and the entire Marquette community has tremendous pride and passion for this program.  We have the leader in place to bring back MU to consistent greatness!   The Maui Invt gives us more national exposure and potential recruiting opportunities.  We have  a chance to be the #1 team in the country!  I repeat NUMBER 1!!  This is our time!!  Let's hit the trifecta!!  WE ARE MARQUETTE!!!!

And the best part, is we are starting to write another chapter that points to being as much fun and significant as what put us on the map.

The Lens

You have always been one of my favorite posters because you know firsthand what has gone into making this an elite basketball school. We have been blessed to have met unreal people and learn the game from some great basketball minds. I hope your Dad is back into the swing of the program, he is needed!!!

The day Shaka was hired I believed it was the return to glory and he has not disappointed. As noted in another post, a lot of people made the Shaka hire happen and that was step one. Anyone that questions MU commitment to men's basketball or they can compete in NIL do not get it. The right guys are backing this program and the future is very bright.

I think I have slept about 7 hours that past days and it is only Nov. 22. We have a long season ahead.

Thanks for sharing the emotion that this program, this school, stirs in you. Its rooted in the strongest ties, family. As I've said elsewhere, even through the lean years there's always been a sense of celebration and joy at Marquette. There was always an unparalleled legacy and history to commemorate. Which is what makes this program even more special. In life as in basketball, the ups and downs go hand in hand. With Shaka at the helm, our "down" years are about to get a whole lot brighter.  Our challenge as fans of this treasured program is to never let the forthcoming success spoil our understanding of the sacrifices it took for our team to get where they are....and that extends to every person affiliated with this program. They are. You are. WE are.... Marquette!

To be honest, what makes this special to me is because it means a great deal to a lot of people. My connection means a great deal to me on a personal level, but there are far better MU fans than me. We have seen Shaka build a team and rally the MU community and that means a lot to me. After the win today, I will be celebrating with 1000's in the community, either via text, social media, scoop, email and in person, but everyone will have special reason why they are celebrating.

I know a good number of scoopers and they all have their own connection to MU and the program. That is what makes this opportunity so important today. I have had communication with a ton of folks over the past two days and they all have their own story to tell and I fxxkin love it. Will add, now my kids have a real story of their own to build on.

Agreed on the kids as well.  I have brain washed them their whole lives.  My oldest is at MU now and loving it.  My second is applying this year.  Makes me happy.  Went to MU when we were in the worst position we had ever been as a basketball program.  Just joined a conference with the Evansville purple aces. Brutal.  Loved the constant trajectory upward since my time there with some smaller downward turns over the years.  The Shaka era will be a culmination of all that hard work.  Hopefully it lasts for another 10-15 years.
