This week there's been a lot of talk about how Jon Scheyer is looking to schedule prominent home-and-home series now that he's taken over Duke, something K was reticent to do. With Marquette on the ascent, it's possible if they were looking for a prominent opponent that we would be on the short list, particularly given we play in one of the most state-of-the-art venues in college basketball. We signed a 2-year deal to renew the Notre Dame series, but clearly they aren't yet a marquee opponent, despite the history. So which would you rather play?

  • Notre Dame: One of Marquette's most prominent historic opponents and in the near-future what looks like a near automatic win. If nothing else, they provide an annual reason for chili to say "ND Sucks." However they provide little resume benefit and are unlikely to provide actually entertaining games until Shrewsberry turns it around.
  • Duke: Much higher chance of a loss, but would be a great ticket at home and playing in Cameron would be an epic opportunity. Almost certain to be a high-value win and minimal resume damage loss.

As great of a couple years these two will be I expect us to fall back to the receiving votes - #15 range next year. Due to that I'd rather keep the ND series alive for sentimental value.

If I'm wrong and we hit end up staying in the top 10 range after Oso and TKO then I'm on board for Duke games.

We have ND for an additional two years after this year? I thought this year was the end of it.

I say keep ND and build the rivalry even more. Also, the game at ND last year was a blast. Selfishly, I'd love to do that every other year

ND Sucks will only be down for a limited time. I would prefer we lock in a long term series against them. Maybe even move to a neutral setting like Chicago.

Screw ND. If they want to play BE teams, they can join. Otherwise let them rot with Louisville.

Why the hell would you move it to a neutral site?  Idiotic

If Notre Dame doesn't want to do home-and-homes, drop them.  Don't waste games in neutral sites against Notre Dame.  This isn't football

Given our upcoming schedule, I will take the easier win against ND for this season.

Illinois, Texas and UCLA are tough matchups for our roster with their size. UW road game. Then who knows who else we see in Hawaii.  I'll just take a win.

At the ND game today against WCU. My son played with a player on NDs squad.  WCU looked good. ND looked young and not that good.  WCU is top 150 in Kenpom.  ND is now top 200 Kenpom.  MU should destroy ND.  Looking forward to the game in Milwaukee.

Sure, but this is about going forward. If next year we could either be starting a home-and-home on the road, would you rather return to South Bend or head down to Durham?

Ahhh. Then gimme Duke.

No idea if the buzz around Marquette will last, but scheduling teams like Duke is one way to make sure it does.

I think that Sean's a great athlete but i don't think he's the PG of a top 10 team. I also think it's likely Kam leaves after the year (just a gut feeling) which means likely a rebuilding year or two. Don't think we'll be bad by any means.

Why will MU be back to the range you noted?

Because he's COLE.

No one excepted last years roster to get to #6. No one (two year ago) thought this team would be preseason T-5. We've got some good players, but they weren't 5 star world beaters. They have become a great team because Shaka put them all together.

Will we be T-5 every year forever? Of course not. Will we be next year? Who knows? But I wouldn't count out being T-5 in ANY GIVEN YEAR as long as Shaka is at the helm. I'll wait and see what happens on the floor.

What happens on the court is all that matters. It's where you finish that counts. This year I'm excited by the hype - but we need to win some games the next few weeks to earn that - winning at Ill with a less than 100% TK would be a great start.

I'll take Duke or a marquee team...More so for selfish reasons however for road trip opportunities....

I wanted Galway to admit he's Cole. Unfortunately, I think there are some MU backers that  think Shaka caught lightning in a bottle and this one this is probably a one time run. This program is built for long term success, and it is just getting started.

I remember many on here feeling that MU could not have a program like Nova or Gonzaga and I never understood that thinking. As I mentioned last week, I hope they win a natty this year, but if not, there will be more opportunities in the Shaka era.
