Did MU have a court storm when they beat #1 Villanova?  When MU beats UConn, should there be a court storm or should the students act as if they have been there before?

I think MU is at a level where beating UConn, if they are not number one or MU does not tie them for a regular season title, does not warrant a court storm.

Wake Forest court storming Duke indicates an inferior basketball program beating a better one.  Number 17 Kentucky getting stormed by LSU indicates the same thing.

Fortunately MU is in a better position than that and acts like they have been there unless something truly special happens.

In 89 it was fun and stupid all at the same time.  But it indicated who was the inferior program at the time more than anything.

You are assuming way too much rational thinking is involved here.

It all depends on how the game plays out. If the UConn game is emotional, with a close last minute win, I could see it. But likely not.  The '89 one was dumb, but it was more cathartic with the promise of the O'Neill era.

But apparently I had 20 beers and puked all over myself, so what do I know.

I can't figure out why there would be a court storm in a game with like a 2pt spread.

Because the schools are close in proximity and Wake Forest has generally stunk since the Duncan days of the mid 90’s, while Duke has been going to Final Fours and winning championships during that time.  Plus, it’s Duke.  Universally disliked if you’re not for them.

While a player getting injured from a court storm is not good, I think there’s an overreaction to this one incident.  There’s lots of court storms every year and very few, if any opposing coaches or players ever injured because of them.

I saw ACC is the only major conference without any sanction when one happens.

I think you nailed it about 89.  It was cathartic.  And that’s what a lot of these court storms are.  Schools get beat downs for years by some programs and finally beating them causes a euphoria that leads to a court storm.  They are a part of the game for sure.  But it does seem a little to frequent now.

Likely because the way they are covered by the media, and even by the schools themselves, promotes them.

For instance...

And this is even after they have their athletic director's statement of apology posted on the same timeline!

No doubt.  The court storm in 89 was the advertisement for season tickets the next year.  I have a picture of it.

Court stormings are fun. That is how they are treated by the schools and the media networks. Now dimwits like you are all up in arms about them because a poor Dookie got hurt.

Yeah, it’s OK because the guy who was hurt was from Duke. Talk about a dimwit.

It actually is too bad he wasn't killed.

I didn't watch the end if the game but did Creighton court storm when they beat UCONN?

I say no…we’ve been there before. Let someone storm us…but not us on them.

Yeah, it was pathetic.  Thought Creighton was a better program than that.

Regardless of yesterday at Wake, I've always thought a court storm should be for a huge upset.  if we do it on March 6th I think that's stupid.  Just my take.

I stormed the field when ND beat Florida State in 1993. I was there to see 1 vs 2 and bet big on FSU, which I lost. Figured it likely be the only time I would see 1 vs 2 and storm the field at ND. I would have preferred winning my bet, but a memory nonetheless.

If Marquette students storm the court on March 6, it’d be embarrassing

If we win, you can count on a court storming by Marquette students. They will act just like other students when their team upsets a highly ranked team. And yes, it would be an upset, even though not a huge one.

Pathetic, really.  Beating UConn and not storming the court would say more about where Marquette is
