End of game officiating was questionable, but Duke was also getting plenty of help from Clemson's Ian Shieffelin.

With 2:06 remaining and Clemson holding a 4 point lead, Shieffelin grabbed a defensive rebound. The next 1:51 went like this:
CLEMSON: Shieffelin turnover (2:02)
DUKE: Filipowski missed jumper (1:56)
CLEMSON: Shieffelin turnover (1:37)
DUKE: McCain made layup (1:32, Clemson leads 69-67)
CLEMSON: Shieffelin turnover (1:06)
DUKE: McCain missed 3 (0:53)
CLEMSON: Shieffelin turnover (0:25)
DUKE: Filipowski made layup, fouled by Shieffelin, made free throw (0:15, Duke leads 70-69)

That's 4 consecutive turnovers, punctuated by fouling to create a 3 point play to give up the lead. Some of the turnovers were absolutely mind-numbingly dumb.

This is a great post and it illustrates why most whining about the refs is dopey.

Yes, the foul call that sent Roach to the line at the end was questionable at best and more likely horrible.

But had Shieffelin made even one good play down the stretch - heck, if he had avoided making even one of those bad plays down the stretch - Clemson would not have been in that position in the final seconds.

My Spidey Sense told me that Richmond would beat Dayton.

The reffing in that game was so different from current Big East games. Holmes for UD saddled with an awful 4th foul with about 14 minutes left, and the whole game had no flow because of constant whistles.

I have enjoyed the flow of Big East games this year, but stunned at the lack of calls with big contact on drives to the hoop. Kolek in particular has been getting hammered all year on drives, but really it has been called that way consistently across the league. Beats the free throw parades of a few years ago, but it does seem fouls on shots should still be called when they occur.

Wow, Shieffelin must have had Duke money line.

Would be nice if Texas could beat Houston tonight. Good for Texas' NET (and theoretically ours by extension), and also would knock Houston down a peg (probably not in ratings, but maybe a little in stature).

Agreed. About the only game I have any interest in watching tonight.

Some light Monday and Thursday slates the last few weeks.

Texas looks a lot better tonight than they have at many points throughout the season.

Would be nice for MU if Texas can finish off this game against Houston.

And of course talking about it prompted the fastest 9-0 run in the history of basketball 😅😂

No idea why Hunter was put back into the game after cramping.

Ya. No idea what he was doing. Would've probably had the last shot.

He looked lost and like he couldn't go laterally the possession before that.

Texas got to get a 5th foul on Shead

Houston under Sampson always plays D. But Texas is making it easy on them.

Weaver cant dribble. Hunter looks borderline D3 tonight. And they keep having those two handle the ball up top over Abmas. Then they had Disu whose a beast in the paint dribbling on the perimiter throwing fast balls to weaver.

Texas just out toughed.

Cryer tried to shoot Houston out of the game. But Houston got every rebound off his misses.

Hunter has been awful the entire game. Bad decision by Perry.

If I was filling out my bracket today, I'd pick Houston to win it all.

They have guys that can take over, but most importantly...it feels like every single rebound is theirs. They are everywhere on the glass.

Dont get me wrong, they can win it. But usually the issue for them is putting the ball in the basket in March. Eventually catches up to them it seems.

Agreed, but it seems like a year where toughness could win. I'm sure I'll change my Champion 10 times before now and March, but there just isn't an overpowering team this year. Maybe their toughness finally pulls through.
