Purdue starting to pull away.  5 left. Up 12. Xavier hanging in there. Edey is a beast.  Puts his shoulder into everyone and doesn’t get called

I just looked up his height. 7 ft 4 300 lbs lol. That’s almost impossible to stop.

Xavier picked his pocket a couple of times with a well timed double team as he put the ball on the floor.

Remember last year when Gold said Edey looked slow before the Purdue game?     I still think there was extra emphasis by Edey on his dunks over Ben.

I've seen him in person and it's really hard to convey just how big that kid is. I've heard announcers say the same. Somehow, he seems bigger than "just" 7'4" and 300. He's massive. The kid was just born 30 years too late. He would have been a force in the 90s NBA. He's improved an awful lot since his freshman year and he's a much better player that he was -- he had a number of nice moves last night that he would have tripped while attempting a couple years ago -- but I still don't know if his skill set will transfer to the next level. But damn, he's huge.

I think the best way to try to handle Edey is just to mitigate the damage he does. Try to deny him the ball, force them to shoot threes so you hopefully get some odd careens on rebounds, and on the other end beat him with ball screens, pick and roll, and misdirection. The other issue is refs don't whistle him for a ton of fouls. He's only fouled out once in his career and that was as a freshman on the road at Miami in 2020. Since then, he's only been hit for 4 fouls in 6/98 games.

The key to beating them is not giving them a chance to get him the ball. Pressure their guards into turnovers before they have a chance to establish the offense. Last year, in their 6 losses, they lost the turnover rate battle 5 times. In addition, you need to be patient on offense. Don't let Edey get easy blocks. They won't turn opponents over, so you get the chance to run your offense and they count on limiting you to one shot. You have to make the first shot count. Pressure and efficiency to mitigate his impact and they can be beat.

That all sounds good to me, brew. I look forward to watching it work to perfection when we beat Purdue for the Hawaii tourney title next week!

My daughter graduated from Purdue this spring and we watch a lot of basketball together. I really liked everything about Purdue while she was there, so Purdue has unofficially become my second favorite team. We are both really looking forward to the Hawaii tourney and would soooo enjoy that matchup.

Calling the Bagder's offense putrid would be far too kind

I have to give them credit for their discipline.  They used the entire shot clock and executed down 23 with under 3 mins to play.

As someone said in another thread, it would be great if Gonzaga could get into the top 10 for next week. I’m not sure there has ever been five top 10 teams in an in-season tournament.
