He had a great nickname. May he RIP.   Any pregame '77 championship game thoughts about him?  How concerned were you?

Every time one  of these guys dies, it makes me feel very old. And sad.

Regarding the nickname thing, are you sure you're not confusing him with Cedric "Cornbred" Maxwell who played for UNCC, MU' s other opponent in the 1977 Final 4 ??

Not doubting you at all. I'm just not remembering "the Greyhound" ( other than Bobby "the Greyhound" Dandridge who played for the Bucks in the '70s).

Not sure if they were calling him that at UNC but it was definitely his nickname at Phoenix

I read "The Greyhound" which is awesome if true.

Walter Davis was a classy guy . Had a smooth style to his game and played strong defense. Was one of my all time favorites in college and pro.

the nickname "greyhound" must have been a common one out in those parts back in the day.  the original "greyhound" bobby dndridge was from richmond, virginia, went to college at norfolk state.  eddie doucette who was the master of basketball players nicknames and all other things basketball first coined the term for bobby around 1969-70

walter davis was referred to as the grey hound by phoenix suns broadcaster, al mccoy, along with a few others names, "sweet d", "the man with the velvet touch" as well
