[Cracked Sidewalks] Kansas Preview
« on: September 06, 2023, 06:26:02 AM »
Earlier this summer, Bill Self said #mubb would be preseason #1, but now it looks like his Jayhawks could have that honor. Cracked Sidewalks breaks down Kansas' new look with Hunter Dickinson that is rather similar to the old look.

Dickinson is going to be a problem.

Our biggest advantage early in the season will be our team cohesion and chemistry. That will dwindle as the year progresses, but we’ll come out looking like a well oiled machine while newly assembled squads will still be working out the kinks.

Expect us to assert our dominance early.

What a great test early on.  The Maui invitational field is insane.  Would love the opportunity to play these guys after a UCLA win.

Will there be a Chaminade preview?

I do full previews on first and second round MTE opponents and smaller shared capsules on potential third round opponents. That means Chaminade gets full preview treatment, including a projected starter that grew up within 30 minutes of Marquette's campus.

Not having Morris definitely changes things. I expect he was going to land 5th-7th in the rotation, so maybe not starting, but playing enough to matter. Considering their depth, this probably means Elmarko Jackson has a larger role.

Dickinson is going to be a problem.
.

If Dickinson is a problem, how is he going to guard Oso, that might be a bigger problem for Kansas, just beat him down the court for Oso that will be easy

Bump.

Thanks again for the work Brew.

For 24 of the past 25 years from Tulsa to Illinois to Kansas, his teams have ranked in the top-25 in kenpom defense. They will be stalwart
^^^ this is insane.

McCullar at 6’7 B2b trip doubs.
Dickinson at 7’2 27&21, 31&11 in his last two.
KJ Adams at 6’7 their 3rd best scorer.

Somehow, I ain’t scurred.

Bring it.

While Kansas obviously didnt have to play the physically imposing type of game we had to play.

They didnt get the "rest" edge I thought they would by playing chaminade.

For some reason they played Dickinson/McCullers/Harris, 32/35/35 minutes in a glorified exhibition.

Thanks Brew for the Preview.
Lots of excellent information.
Glad we were battle tested with Illinois and UCLA.

Updated the preview. KU has some gaudy stats but largely in buy games. Their starting 5 is incredible, but a fast paced game where the bench plays a role could benefit Marquette. Very tough test, but not impossible.

Marquette needs to take advantage of the penalties the NCAA dropped on Kansas that crippled the program

I appreciate brew giving us a chance to-peek-a head at Kansas.

Cleveland State may never recover from this.
