Can we please just get rid of the damn U2 pre-game music?

Yes. That awful Jimmy Fallon subway video must be the last straw.

As a big hater of U2, streets can be tradition at this point. Works well, I don't see it used eveywhere for intros, solid thing to continue.

I have been sick of thunderstruck pregame for a very long time.

When's the last time you heard Beethoven at a sporting event?  And I think his 9th is probably the greatest piece of music ever written. (That and Aerosmith's version of "Train Kept a Rollin'."  😉)

Ode to Joy has been played at nearly every Olympic opening ceremony Fluffy.  Do not fk with Ludwig.  PERIOD.  It's also beyond remarkable he composed this masterpiece when he was deaf.  His music will last forever and has had a tremendous impact on the human heart and soul.

Thunderstruck is the priority removal between the two. I also don't mind Streets as a song (despite hating U2), but it just sounds so dated.

Id guess that close to 90% of current MU students have never heard Purple Haze. Most of the remaining 10% probably couldn't tell you a single lyric from the song.

Not even close.

Most students now grew up listening to Classic Rock that their parents played.

And if the 10% can't figure out that a lyric from Purple Haze is "Purple Haze", maybe they aren't ready for college.

augoman

Hmm, maybe 'Peaches En Regalia', Frank Zappa.

BrewCity83

While we're at it, maybe we could get the kids to all hold up fake newspapers while the other team's being introduced, like we used to do back in the day.  That was cool.
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

Agree. It's just sending mixed messages at this point, we know the streets DO have names:

9th street on the east
20th on the west
Wells on the north
Clyborn on the south.

I think you're thinking millenials. And we're almost 40.

You realize that Purple Haze came out nearly 57 years ago right?  I'm over a decade out of college and didn't grow up listening to "classic rock that my parents played."

This is a whale of a thread that I'm definitely not going to read, but wanted to drop in some related points:

Marquette must cut U2 and AC/DC from the pregame lineup. Please add something fresh. This program renaissance is a perfect opportunity to replace some of the painfully outdated media used at Fiserv.

U2 yes, the thunderstruck clan is like one of the few things we do that's remotely unique though and that song's still very well known amongst the youths... as a drinking game

The parents of current college students went to high school in the 90s. Purple Haze was the classic rock that their parents (and some of their grandparents) listened to

Seriously, they are great outer wear for trade people that work outside in cold environments in that they keep the core warm and still keep the arms free to do what they need to get done.  Sweatshirt hoodie with Sweater Vest as outer layer.

Yeah, I think people are really losing track of time here.  The parents of current college students listened to stuff like the Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer.

Hendrix transcends time. He's not some Weezer like flash in the pan

The song and coordinated arm waving are a total cringefest and I don't think any uniqueness can save that. I'm also convinced that drinking game only exists on and around the MU campus, though that point isn't in my favor ;D

We should replace the student section with wacky waving inflatable tube men.
