Roast of Al McGuire
« on: March 17, 2023, 06:55:36 AM »
I thought I'd share this because it's pretty neat, the 1978 Al McGuire Roast starring Ray Meyer, Digger Phelps, Billy Packer, Butchie Lee, and Al McGuire himself.

Sometimes the footage is grainy and jumpy, but it is well worth watching. Here it is:

On a day like today I know Coach Al, Coach Hank, Coach Rick, Coach Nagle, Coach Hickey, Coach Chandler, and Tex Winter (who won one of the three MU National Championships/Coach Al the other two) are all looking down today with great pride because of the success of Smart Coach at Marquette.

I also believe coaches like Coach Deane, Coach Crean, Coach W., and Coach "Our Kev" are also beaming with pride today about Marquette.

I will forever be grateful to Coach W. for the 100 year anniversary event he put together at Marquette. Although I have been hard on Coach W., that tremendous event will forever be part of his coaching legacy. I wish him well wherever he coaches in the future.

The 100 year event gave the fan base (and me) the opportunity to heal from old wounds related to Coach Crean and Coach "Our Kev". I found it very therapeutic and I am certain that those two did as well. Not everyone can leave a program on top like Coach Al did, but when you have strong ties to a program like we do as super fans, sometimes that is hard to remember.

Watching this roast of Coach Al simply reminds me of how great the history is of our program and how much pride and emotion I have for those bygone days and how much pride and emotion I feel for the incredible days we have in front of us.

I believe Smart Coach is a perfect fit at Marquette.

Enjoy viewing this Roast and most of all, enjoy the game today everyone!!! Go MU!!!
