Galway Eagle

Noticed last night there and at National Marquette day there was no jumping up and down yelling "ohhhhhh" like we used to. I recall this still being a thing before Covid. Have they only stopped recently? Also seems like a lot of the cheers in general have fallen off, is there a reason for this from the cheerleaders?

No student section culture. Can't expect much out of kids these days

Frenns Liquor Depot

Nice— we've found our next axe to grind. I was worried after the marketing department fell off the radar.

I was genuinely curious. Wasn't trying to trying to crap on them.

Not sure if teal was intended here, but other student sections do have regular chants and cheers and it adds to the atmosphere. Just saw tweets today of Pitt and Dayton student sections today that looked like a ton of fun. Not sure why MU doesn't do that. Not sure if it is something the cheerleaders should necessarily be doing, or just leaders in the student section. Anyone know if MU actually has an organization that coordinates or leads the student section? I know other schools do.

That organization? The Marketing and Communication department.

I'm talking about a student organization. We may very well have one; I was genuinely asking. Galway's original post, and my comment, were not intended to be critical of the student section. They show up and seem into the games. I don't think it is a "get off my lawn" worthy comment to ask about coordinated chants and cheers. Watching games on tv they are definitely noticeable and look like fun when some schools have them. The Thunderstruck start to the game is also fun to see in person and on television. Doesn't seem overly critical to think if would be cool to have more of that and inquire.

Heisenberg

Coordinated cheers are something we don't do.

If the kids thought it would be fun, they would organize it.

That said, if you are worried about a bad TV look, then be worried about the fat, old, sweater vest crowd pained because their bursitis is acting up if they have to stand more than seven seconds waiting for MU to score at the beginning of the game.

Milkshakes

Marquette has the best fans in the country.  Old and fat young and the phone obsessed. I don't care.   I love ya all!  You're my people!

No finish line.

Apparently you are the authority on crowd and student section behavior. No one said they were worried about a bad tv look or anything like that. Who's the get off my lawn guy now? Funny.

Dr. Blackheart

The Nazis were running the Kids Club event after the game.  Another Marketing Department Fail!

Scoop only has three types of post about the home crowd.

Not enough people go to the games

The sweater vests sit on their hands

The kids don't have coordinated. Cheers.

Yeah but jumping up and down making noise is better than standing there awkwardly.

Fell very nbaish

My cousin had business in South Bend last week, so he decided to attend the UNC at ND game. He sent a pic well after the game started and the place looked half empty. He said the few students that did show up were lethargic, and the alums/ older fans seemed to be almost napping 😴.

Meanwhile, Marquette is packing the house to SRO for lowly DePaul, with a relatively energetic crowd, given the opponent.  Life is good.

Skatastrophy

During thunderstruck the kids clap side to side in front of their chests instead of with their arms raised above their heads. Are they afraid of stretching or something?

Well, it was  not for DePaul. They were incidental here.

You guys can all keep making fun but it doesn't change the fact that it's a much quieter student section than it used to be. Yo confirm I went back and watched some beginnings of games over the years on YouTube.

You mean they are not "the best student section in the country" anymore?
