52. Spent part my time at MU during the Dukiet years. MU fans that originated from the Dukiet era are a special breed. We have seen the worst and survived to tell about. Wojo seems like John Wooden in comparison to Dukiet, may he rest in peace.

You people experienced Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Chernobyl all rolled into one. It was as if the basketball Gods were piling on.

Your generation is indeed like cockroaches. After Armageddon, that's all that survives!

As of about 2:21 p.m., central time, the weighted average age of a Scooper was 48.2 years.

The calculation was undertaken using the midpoint of each range (except 19 and below and 90 and above) and weighting the result.

This is my new favorite thread. No one being mean. No one bringing up old scoop issues including ex people who are no longer associated with MU.

Just good clean dudes and ladies talkin about how cool life is.

Someone is 30 and 3 kids under 5!?

38yo here with two dogs under 5, does that count?

I really miss Hegarty's. After Angelo's closed, it was sort of the last link with the old MU era for current students. It was a huge part of my social life when I was there during the Crean era. The food was decent, the beer was cheap, a valid ID was optional, had great pool table, pin ball/arcade games, a great mix of students and locals, and had been there forever. It was the real deal. We certainly frequented Murphy's and Caffrey's but Hegarty's was always choice A1.

37.

Did you miss Ziggy's?

We are the same age. I never saw the appeal of Ziggy's. It was the epitome of mediocre. And not in a fun way like Marquette Gyros.

My wife and I had our first two kids under 2y (not twins) when I was 25 and she was 23.

Brother Goose:

You were the exact opposite of my wife (MU 79) and me.

We had our first child at 39 and the second at 41. We were the envy of most of our neighbors when we picked up and went to dinner! Or on a vacation!

I spent enough time at Jim Hegartys in the late 70's that I thought about having my mail forwarded there.

We are a decade ahead of most of our friends on having kids. We have four and all before my wife turned 29 years old. Now, we are ahead on being grandparents.

Good catch.  Definitely O'Donoghues and State House.  Not so much the others though. And Brooks Memorial Union on Fridays for shooting pool and imbibing.

Preach, my brother (or sister). 53, graduated in 1990. It was the worst of times, and it was the worst of times.

Closed Hegarty's every Sunday for a semester.   It is where I went for a pitcher and pool when a professor failed to show up for a final at Johnston Hall.  When called at home, he said he would be there in an hour.   Only one thing to do...

It is where we had a study session for a poli sci final.  The professor was only at MU for a year.  He was plied with Guinness and gave us all of the answers he wanted in our blue books.   He showed up for the final hung over and a little put out that we were all so chipper.   An hour later, aced final.

Two years living in Tower, Hegarty's was home.

Age 70

1 year of Eddie Hickey and everyone after him.

Year 1 5-21 Hickey
Year 2 8-18 McGuire
Year 3 14-12 It was more exciting to go to freshmen game to watch George Thompson.

What this poll tells me about people under 40...

Crean and Buzz had a huge impact on "super fans" while wojo effectively killed that same interest in the 16-26ish group.

It looks like a bunch of scoopers now in the 30-39 range joined in their early to mid twenty's. Now it looks as though the next generation are not nearly as big on scoop.

Or it tells me I'm old and forums are outdated and the 20 somethings are all posting about marquette on tik tok.

wow.  Lots of goodness there.  Wales On Wells (the version that fit in a closet not the ice cream parlor) was way under rated.  (and you missed O'D's and O'P's)

This is me, almost exactly.  Also spent time at O'D's and the Mugrack.  Class of '83.  Good 4 years of basketball under Hank, but never the heights of Al's teams.

Are you sure you are 70? You started college awfully young to have seen Eddie Hickey.

I'm class of 97 but I firmly believe The 80's were MU's Golden Age.

The campus finally took shape with N-S street closures, bars were a plenty, food spots were legendary and MU was still sort of a basketball brand (UNC at the MECCA in '86 was something).

Also Badger Football (basketball) hadn't woken up yet.  The Badgers becoming a powerhouse shifted a lot fans over IMO.  They're easily the #2 brand in the state now.  It wasn't always that way.

I'm 32 and had a full 5 years of MU gyros. It closed the summer of 2014. But yeah I had just over a semester of Haggertys (wasn't it like April 2010 or something?) and a year and a half of Angelo's. I think Kampus foods closed  during my 5th year.

Kampus Foods and Open Pantry both closed after my Freshman year so summer of 2012.

Spent way more time on 3rd street and Brady than on campus bars. Only so much Caffrey’s one could tolerate.

You probably know one or more of my uncles who all matriculated through MU. One spent a lot of time at Hegarty's and also bartended at Brooks Union.
