Apparently a snow leopard took out a skier's face somewhere in China.   Maybe a selfie isn't that necessary?

When the skier and the snow leopard met, there was a face off.  The leopard simply wanted a photo to remind it of the encounter.

Chinese have a tradition of maintaining their dignity and want to be respected by all whom they encounter. They really hate to lose face.

Snow Leopards have tremendous hops btw.  20/50.  That's 20 feet vertically, 50 feet horizontally.  :)

This woman brazenly went within 10 feet of this majestic animal expecting what exactly?  For he/she to pose and take pictures?  What a fking dumbass.

He/she? The correct designation if you are woke is they. Or you could go with "it" like I did and chicken out.

When the encounter goes bad, sometimes you have to face the music.

Snow Leopards and all Big Cats are not to be trifled with unless you want to visit another life.  Tremendous power and strength, not to mention agility and bite force.

Let's not litigate nonsense.  I will take the Mountain 🦁 vs RockyW if you had a knife.  Regardless if it's a machete.  Your heart would be pounding out of your chest and would land in darkness very quickly.  Let's deal with reality, shall we?  :)

Effin' city slickers!

Obviously someone living nearby stupidly left food in a vehicle, because I once found bear claw scratches at the top of the doors and around the moonroof on my Highlander. Can't blame the bear for thinking" Great! Another food pantry."

I don't get many bears (lots and lots and lots of moose), but a couple years ago spiral was over for basketball & beer, and the cameras caught a bear trying to get into his nearly new Tahoe.  Went right for the door handle.  I was worried he'd left scratches, but he must have been gentle.

Last spring (I think), I woke up and found a moose standing still, and staring into my garage.  Creeper!

Some think moose aren't very bright but they should still be respected.  He/She may have been confused or curious about something in your garage.

Possibly, but you seem to be a firm believer in anthropomorphism. Orcas getting together and planning to send a message to humans, Moose having the "right to kill humans without mercy" for all the transgressions by humans, probably including being hunted by them as well.

I try to not laugh when someone says "my dog thinks he's a human". :) Have you ever heard anyone say "I think I'm a dog"?

In my personal experience, dogs act like dogs, cats act like cats, and horses act like horses. I'll add that my guess is that moose act like moose and orcas act like orcas. The laughable attempt by humans to rate the intelligence of animals is almost invariably on our terms, how we believe they should think. Border Collies are considered as one of the most intelligent breeds of dogs because both of their instinct to herd and willingness to be trained by humans. Beagles' brains are prewired to chase and corner rabbits, which they do extremely well as a pack. They're not considered very bright because they often do not accept a high level of control via training by humans. But when it comes to rabbit hunting? They're geniuses, right?

Border Collies are super smart my friend.  I believe we are inordinately arrogant as humans about our value to the world and overall intelligence.  Whale excrement sustains our oceans as an example.  We're talking about an extraordinary species.  Humans are considered the most intelligent species but that doesn't erase all of our damage to other animals and the world.  You're right, dogs are dogs, cats are cats, elephants are elephants, bears are bears, etc, etc, etc.  They may not be as smart as us, but they don't have evil members who cause extreme chaos and ruthlessly do unconscionable things.  The animal kingdom can of course be cutthroat, but they're not genocidal scumbags.  I will continue to root for the non-human animal kingdom.  We are beyond blessed to have dogs and cats to help us.

Specifically, I was making two points. 1) Imagining that animals and humans think and see the world the same way as we do is laughable. Anthromorphism  permeates many of your posts regarding animals. 2) Humans typically measure the intelligence of animals by how well they serve our needs, respond to our training demands, act the way we want them to act. So much of this alleged intelligence is prewired into their brains. All we do is mold it to our needs.

I love animals but I also understand that they are what they are, different species with behaviors developed over thousands of years. Let's talk again when you can give me examples of animals that have developed (or destroyed) civilizations, built hospitals, written books, and discovered scientific principles. Then we can discuss how much they are just like us.

Do you need to write a book to prove your value?  Or invent drugs?  Our ecosystems are dependent on many of our tremendous animal species.  I never stated they are "just like us".  We're more skilled in some things and they're more skilled in some things.  And being intelligent doesn't mean you're a better decision maker or are not a complete jagoff.
I've probably mentioned that I believe all species should be able to complete in certain Olympic events.  Perhaps when a 🐆 is allowed to compete in the 100m, 200m, and 400m, we'll chillax about how great we are in everything.    This is one of many, many, examples.  :)
