Quote from: Uncle Rico on December 18, 2024, 11:44:55 AMI wonder what lesson they'll learn from this event?  Men's golf is probably the least relevant it's been in decades.

LIV is a bust.  The Tour is losing sponsors and viewers.  Players on both tours have no idea the product sucks and don't care.  The players that do care on the PGA side are dismissed unless they care solely about money.

Without the majors, the sport would be on the level of bowling

If past history is any indication they won't learn any lesson.

I kind of got involved in the sport later in life so my experience starts just prior to the dawn of the Tiger era. My understanding is that people weren't exactly lining up to watch Hal Sutton and Corey Pavin duke it out before Eldrick came on the scene.

Most likely will be cyclical. Somebody will come along and reignite interest in the sport. For the time being I'm not certain crowds will show up to watch Justin Thomas or Jordan Spieth.

Ancillary benefit is, at least where I live, tee times are much more available than they were just a few years ago.

Seriously jealous.  COVID drove non-golfers to the course to drink, and around here, they have not left.  Having 12 golf courses in a 30 mile radius close in the last 15 years kind of sucks, too.

We need to shrink the game.

What's amazing is, the majors feel obligated to increase purses.  The money athletes make now has become to numb to sports fans.  There was a time when you could brag about prize money for your event.  Now?  Nobody cares.  Golf keeps thinking more money makes the product better when the average fan doesn't care about it.
Maybe. But will Creighton and St. John's?
They look like the class of league right now. Have not seen Johnnies play, but Creighton looks awesome.

All the Country Clubs in our area have long wait lists and they are upping initiation fees and dues. Only way to get into some is buy a home in Country Club community.

Anyone been to Treetops Resort in northern Michigan? Looking at that for the 2025 trip.

Many times.   It is lovely.  They do the lodging and resort part well.  The courses are beautiful.  Some truly memorable, some generic Northern Michigan

Yeah I have. It's pretty good, not great. I remember really liking one of the courses and the others were decent. I did shoot my career low of 80 there.

The par 3 course is awesome. The lodging was good and it was cheap but I like going to Boyne, Forest Dunes, or Arcadia more

But I would go back
Bring back FFP!!!

I love Forest Dunes/Loop.  Lodging isn't ideal.  But the Loop is destination golf.  Arcadia South is on my 2025 list.   If you really want to get off the beaten path (A) Forest Dunes, and (B) Garland.  Northern Michigan meets Florida golf in that there is a lot of water.

I recommend you try Lincoln Hills Golf Club in Ludington in 2025  . The course is semi-private so you can get tee times. Wind Dunes etc make it challenging from the back. I think you will enjoy it. Nice  Club House after round. Somewhat of a hidden gem in the Michigan rota.

Looks like LIV reached a deal with Fox. I'm a bit surprised by that unless they really want some golf to televise.
