The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) today announced that Charlie Baker, the Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, will serve as the next NCAA President, assuming the role effective March 2023. A former collegiate athlete at Harvard, Governor Baker is credited with bringing bipartisan leadership to the state, successfully guiding Massachusetts through an exceptionally turbulent period for government officials. In addition to his two terms as Governor, he brings decades of experience spearheading transformations at high profile institutions in the private and public sectors.

IMO, Blaming Emmert for the NCAA failures is like blaming Goodell for the NFL failures. We all know where the real power and decision making lies. Emmert and Goodell follow their boss's directions.

So to expect a new president of the NCAA to change things is foolhardy.

The ire, criticism, vitriol need to be directed at the university presidents. We can all start with Lovell.

IMO, Blaming Emmert for the NCAA failures is like blaming Goodell for the NFL failures. We all know where the real power and decision making lies. Emmert and Goodell follow their boss's directions.

I think you are accurate to a point. There are definitely operational issues where his team has done poorly - the difference between the men's and women's 2020 bubbles for instance.  I would also say that their screwing up on the TV rights deal for the tournaments is another.

But anyway, it's clear that what the NCAA is doing here is to regain some sort of control by using a politician to lobby for more federal protection. And I think that isn't just closing the bard door before the horse left, but the horse left three weeks ago and is 100 miles away by this point.
