TAMU, Knower of Ball

My parents winter in Naples. Nice little area. Great beaches, great restaurants, an awesome zoo, some cool hiking trails (if you don't mind stepping around gators. I always enjoy my visits. Personally would never want to live there for an extended period time but see why others would.

Awfully small nit you picked, but yes. .Not public, but if you belong to a good private club you also have reciprocity at the other top ones from May 1 through October 31. Every year (in addition to my own course) I play Royal Poinciana, Mediterra, Bay Colony, Colliers Reserve, Hole in the Wall, Hideout, Pelican Bay, Talis Park and many, many more.

Yeah, I'm familiar with some. Leaving out the heavy hitters though.

You say many, many more like it's a good thing. Tip of the cap.

I get the allure of the whole Bonita Springs / Naples area. The weather is nice when it is bad in the midwest. Good food. My understanding is the golf is good. Close to the beach and water if you are into that kind of thing.

But I also understand why people say "no thanks." It's like a big, non-descript suburb. Old Naples is a bit of an exception, but even that has changed quite a bit in the last 20 years.  And is probably the least diverse place of that size I have been.

Whatever one likes I guess.

Don't you live in DePere?

Given the choice, I doubt Sultan is deciding to retire to DePere though.

We will likely retire to the Milwaukee area, but that isn't for quite awhile yet.  Plenty of time to figure that out down the line.  And don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind spending a month or so in a place like Naples, but that's about it for me.  It's just not what interests me.

There's no right or wrong answer - whatever makes one happy. And I like Milwaukee - short visit in the summer, an MU game or two in the winter.

That said, it's a place that (generally speaking) people retire FROM, not TO. Naples, OTOH....

So, back on topic, instead of a city almost 60 miles away from the tournament.

Doc Ford's Rum Bar is a solid choice for seafood and drinks. Local Florida author Randy Wayne White is the owner. There are now three locations in the area.  His books are about the area in the John McDonald vein.
This is in addition to the area staples Mucky Duck and Tween Waters Inn on Captiva.

Love Sanibel and especially Captiva. It's a bit of an effort getting there (and finding parking), but beautiful beaches and, as you said, some good eats/drinks.

Thanks for the tip on Doc Ford's. Haven't been there.

Doc Ford's is solid.

Top O the Mast is unfortunately no more. Used to get wicked twisted there on boat drinks.

Great weather, clean (best air quality in the US), beautiful beaches, superb golf and fishing (of all kinds), pickleball,  amazing flora and fauna, top notch restaurants, low crime (virtually no violent crime),

Yes, no skyscrapers. Yes, little diversity (the one real drawback, imo). Yes, a high % of old people. But (unlike the Midwest), mostly very active, health conscious old people. Want to sit at your computer or in front of your TV all day? Stay where you are - this place isn't for everyone.

If you like being outdoors and living an active lifestyle, though, it's hard to beat.

1) NO skyscrapers in Naples, but we have 'em elsewhere in Florida. Wanna see skyscrapers, drive from Miami through the Palm Beaches. They cover the waterfront. Some even don't fall down!

2) Diversity in Florida -- You're kidding right. I suspect there's more Cubans here than in Cuba. And in some places, we're Puerto Rico North. Our African American population mirrors or exceeds national levels as well.

3) Active Lifestyle -- Very true.

4) High Percentage of Geezers -- Well, the percentage is falling but yeah, I can't argue with this. At our church in Vero Beach, Ms. Dgies and I are the Catholic Youth Organization. Average congregant is being measured for a casket!

We were speaking specifically about Bonita Springs / Naples and diversity.  It's not very diverse.
