Thanks Wades.  Yes I could.  Pretty much anything you wanted from tomahawks to 360s.  However, I'm too tall at 6'2" and of course Rec League only.  But I appreciate the compliment.

I believe Spud had a '48 and Nate Robinson  had a '45.  Muggsy had a '44 but couldn't palm the ball.  Mannigault had a '50 and was 6'1 at best.

I'll have to take your word for it. I never saw him play and his career numbers don't jump off the page: 4.7 ppg, 1.0 rpg, 1.1 apg. Though I don't know how accurate the old record books are.

Sadly, we don’t have that information from that era.  We’ll have to rely on the Joe Beer Gut stats

Beyond that, we had a bunch of guys who were big, but not fat.

Copa.  6'9, 254, got invited to try out for the Cowboys after college.    But  not even slightly overweight.
Jayce
Kerry Trotter and Pop Sims had round faces but weren't heavy.   Same with Derrick Wilson
Butch seemed like a thick body but wasn't obese.

I would say Junior was "stout". Sounds nicer. ( Before his Senior year, I saw Junior Cadougan score 71 points in a Summer League game at Greenfield H.S. . Prior to that night, I wouldn't have bet that Junior could score 71 points if you left him alone in a gym for 40 minutes).

(I wasn't around these parts long enough ago to know if the likes of Jimmy and Jae were routinely ripped.)

Jimmy was trashed for sure. Jae, not that I recall.

Matt Carlino took a lot of abuse early in his time at MU.

Thanks for the info.

I don't remember it, but I don't doubt it.

Sam was pretty much worshipped during his time at Marquette. VSS ... many here were hoping he wouldn't go pro after a year or 2. Very, very few trashed Henry during his fine season at Marquette.

Of course, Markus Howard was trashed far more than any of the above during his time at MU -- including by you, a guy who knows so much stink about basketball that you thought the Bucks shoulda traded Giannis and all of his "smoes" right before the Bucks went on to win the title.

I love JFB and I loved him at MU, but a good chunk of that trashing was justified for awhile.  He improved greatly into his Jr year but he was super soft.  It was infuriating.  I remember just getting tossed around down low and finishing abysmally inside.  He came back the next year stronger and meaner and the rest is history.

I ran into Odell Ball, at the speedway gas station and 92nd Burleigh, about two weeks ago.
I had on a Marquette Warriors cap, and he goes I like that cap!

He proceeds to Identify himself as Odell Ball.
We talked for a little bit, took a selfie with him.
He identified with the warrior logo versus the golden eagle which is why he spoke to me.

Odell was the Warriors' center my freshman year. We had a nice team -- Sam Worthen, Bernard Toone, Michael Wilson, Oliver Lee, Robert Byrd, Odell Ball, Artie Green. We had DePaul in trouble in the NCAAT but blew a late lead (and effen DePaul went on to play in the Magic-Bird FF). The next offseason, the only recruit Hank signed was Terrell Schlundt, and the program was on its way downhill.

Odell was an above-average college center back then -- 11 ppg on 55% shooting. I enjoyed watching him play.

He was regularly referred to as a Chucker early on until he started hitting lot of threes .

To defend this as I agreed, he was taking 30%+ of the shots early on and was NOT at all efficient (chucker). He settled in later and played much better. One of the better senior transfers.

That said, we didn't know then that Wojo wanted PG chuckers.
