No big deal. Sure wasn't the first joke to go over my bald head!

Mike Gundy, man.

Toss up about whether you are referring to today's comments on drinking or his hair.

Time for Kirby to take away the keys.

Within 24 hours of one Georgia football player being admonished by a judge in an Athens-Clarke County courtroom for reckless driving habits, three other Bulldogs have been charged with similar offenses.

These latest charges bring to 19 the number of incidents involving Georgia football players who have been charged for driving-related offenses since a high-speed, alcohol-related accident took the lives of two members of the football program Jan. 15, 2023.

Is the NCAA really going to enforce rules around receiving payment but not doing work?

Malachi Nelson, the former #1 QB recruit, transferred from USC to Boise St in the offseason.  Espn did a long article about it last week

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/40762706/former-no-1-recruit-malachi-nelson-fresh-start-boise-state-2024

It was kind of a weird fluff article.  He didn't officially lose the job at USC before leaving.  It didn't really illuminate why he'd choose Boise St when a bevy of P5 schools would have readily accepted him, especially given Boise has a defensive minded HC and the OC he was familiar with left for Kentucky.

Now less than a week later, its announced that Boise gave the starting job to a returning sophomore over Nelson.  SHEESH.

The injuries this young man suffered screwed up his development. "He didn't have the ability to train during the recovery process," his father Eric said. "He didn't have the ability to work out, to eat, to lift and to do the things that he needed to do. So it really kind of set us back." Additionally,  The father readily acknowledged the son needed a lot of growth and development in the article.

Lot of competition for starting positions everywhere and part of that is continuous Improvement that occurs in off season. Hopefully this young man can some reps in during practice over the course of the year to get back on a growth profile.

Oklahoma State Coach tells players stop asking for more money.

Mike Gundy is always fine being on the wrong side of history

Coaches were making $1,000,000 ---- and they were happy
Then TV money exploded and they were making $5,000,000 ---- and they were happy
Then TV went bananas and they were making $10,000,000 ---- and they were happy
Then some of the rules changed and they're upset they have deal with a portal / NIL?

They're pay has gone up 10x in the last 15 years and only now has the job changed.

I don't get this mentality.  There is this sentiment that college coaches can't speak about anything related to NIL/player compensation, unless its glowingly, without being labeled as hypocrites and/or dinosaurs.

Read the article, he's not complaining, he's not whining, and he seems very informed and pragmatic about whats going on.  He just wants to focus on football during the season.  That's not any different in the NFL.  If a player was constantly talking about extensions mid season, to the detriment of their play, they would be criticized as well.  Gundy has always been player/athlete friendly, sometimes to a definite fault.

Are there coaches who are anti-NIL and hypocritical and stuck in their ways?  Absolutely.  But far more are accepting and flexible, but that doesn't mean they can't have opinions.  Its back to Kiffin's comments that got twisted.  There is a ton with NIL that is still a mess and chaotic and unchecked.  It can still be a net positive for players and something that can benefit the sport going forward, but speaking critically about aspects of it doesn't suddenly mean you're against it.  This idea that because you're a highly paid coach, you're now disqualified from speaking about the mechanics of compensation for your players...is totally silly to me.

Gundy has a history of being anti-NIL and anti-transfer portal. It's not just about this article.

Exactly --- the article is nowhere near as bad as the headline but Gundy is up there with Dabo about complaining about NIL and the Portal.

I have a hard time listening to coaches complain bc they have prospered more than any group* in CFB with the TV rights explosion.
