Before turning to acting, Sirico was an associate of the Colombo crime family serving under Carmine "Junior" Persico -- and was arrested 28 times. This was one of the most violent groups in NYC. He was just a thug for much of his life. He has bragged about how often he beat guys up, often using a baseball bat.

If some here want to make him out to be a hero, so be it. I won't.

BTW, I have no problem with him getting acting jobs. I don't know if he was re-habilitated or not, but he did his time in prison. He deserved a new chance at life.

I read through this whole thread, not one person called him a hero.

Did he have a really shitty past at one point? Yes.

Did he also turn his life around? Yes.

So your logic is that people cannot be mourned at all if they were at any time a bad person?

Also keep in mind that all the people mourning him(fans and costars) are remember the guy that they knew at that time, which based off everything I have heard was a really solid guy.

I happened to be in a Tribeca restaurant the afternoon of Gandolfini's funeral and I suddenly realized that I was surrounded by members of the Sopranos who were conducting a little post funeral get together (Michael Imperioli's neighborhood) .
Ordered my burger and looked up and there's Johhny Sack. And there's Bobby Baccalieri crying. There's Uncle Jr, there's Artie Bucko.
Went to the mens and out walks Furio!
Two things were obvious:

1. These guys and ladies really cared about Gandolfini- they
were grieving pretty hard.

2 .Imperioli and Tony Sirico clearly had a close friendship- it was very obvious that they genuinely cared about each other.

Read an article on his life and it was a rough first fifty years.
At age 55, he was sleeping on his mothers couch before he got the role on the Sopranos.

After the Sopranos, he and Gandolfini were very involved with the Wounded Warrior project and went overseas many times supporting the USO Tours.  So, he turned his life around and participated in the above charity organizations helping the military members.

Last few years had brutal dementia issues and was in assisted living home.

One of the best roles on one of the best shows ever to hit TV, or any media outlet.
