so many chuck ups went it for them. i wonder if the core guys come back again. team doesnt have much of a shot without jamil djo and buckys. it was fun watching these old mu guys suit up again.

Where would you look to revamp the roster?  I think we need an overhaul.

Was discussing this in a group chat today. Buzz was the master of the upperclassmen fringe NBA guy. Jamil, DJO, Buycks were all cup of coffee guys that dominated TBT.

But looking ahead as this team is washed up, it's...Sacar, Fischer...maybe they can get Haanif and Sandy? Markus is probably the best prospect, but there isn't the wealth of options there once were.

It was a fun era, hopefully we'll have more to cheer for from the proper MU team, because TBT is entering the Wojo era.

Luke seems pretty useless to me .  I would get a 4/5.  Maybe Ellenson.  Burton could have helped.  Is Reinhardt still hooping?  You're right, not much in the Wojo pipeline

Can we not poach some players with Milwaukee connections?  We definitely look old.

Earliest TBT exit. An early Budweiser exit blame. Crap to come

Lazar had some legal issues in Hawaii to take care of.

Caught a lot of the game but not all.  What I did watch was a lot of mostly solid D but a completely stagnant offense.  I also saw DJO twice at the end of a quarter toss up a shot too early and give up a 3 on the other end.  Inexplicable really especially for our wise old team.  As others have said, I'm wondering who's back going forward.  Buzz guys are getting up there and an early exit doesn't leave a lot of optimism for next year.  But hey, that 2020 run for the championship was really a ton of fun and at least they did get one of those with these guys.

In their mid 30s and out of basketball for a couple of seasons.

Looks like this iteration of the team's last dance:

Joe Chapman: Thank you for supporting us!Been a hell of a 8 year grind! These men gave us dedication for the program we love @MarquetteMBB. It's not easy giving up your time away from family and love ones. most of these guys gave 8 years to @thetournament . I hope we represented you all well!

That's too bad. I have enjoyed watching them in TBT for sure.  2020 was really an amazing run.

MU Fan in Connecticut

I see this has already said here multiple times
1. Offense disappeared in the 2nd quarter and only returned for the first half of the 4th.
2 Missed way too many shots they usually seem to make.
3  Was fun viewing summertime Marquette basketball.  Was hoping for another game or two.

The Lens

There is a VERY small part of me that is happy for Dayton because they were robbed of the 2020 NCAAs and that team's hero Obi Toppin was in the house and helped corral 8,000 fans last night.  Maybe that was the moment they never had.

I will now shower to remove the stench of this Dayton softness.

Me too - was joking saying it to my buddies but then we started rattling off options and it's very clear there is a significant gulf in available talent from the last few years compares to previous options.

Maybe some of the older guys won't continue, but I hope the Golden Eagles can still get a squad together. This year was frustrating. Hope to see them in TBT next year.

Herman Cain

Would like to see the team pick up JJJ . Lots of steals in this league which is one of his specialty's , can also shoot the 3 and drive. Has a nice pick and roll relationship with Luke. Pair him with Swaggy Du in the backcourt and you would have some good energy.

Then get the rest of the 2016-17 team that is available. Rowsey was on this team for a few years but rarely played in games. We sure could have used him last night.

Rowsey rarely played because he can't defend a hat stand. There are three real keys to a successful TBT team. You need fringe NBA talent, you need guards that are willing defenders, and you need mobile bigs that can stretch the floor. Jamil, Buycks, DJO, McNeal, Juan, and Cook all checked some of those boxes.

Going forward, Markus is the only guy who looks like a surefire TBT star. Fringe NBA guy, great scorer, willing (not great, but willing) defender. Blue and Cook help, but they're on the wrong side of 30.

The rest of our alumni from 2014-21 just aren't great. Luke looked stuck in molasses and can't shoot. JJJ and Duane would be fine role-players, but like Sandy Cohen and Trent Lockett (on Gutter Cats currently) are TBT bench players, not stars. Similar to Sacar. Who else is close to the NBA? Maybe Carton or Justin Lewis (check back in 2 years), but guys like Koby, Katin, Theo, Cain, Bailey, and other recent grads are probably role-players at this level.

I hope they keep the team going, it's fun to watch, but 23 wins in 7 years is something we probably won't see again in this competition for a long time. Build something around Markus, like TMT and Jimmer, and hope for some development from the next few classes if they want to stay competitive. But if this year's games are any indicator, we were already a ways away and that was with Jamil, DJO, and Buycks, who I doubt we'll see again, and definitely not at all-TBT levels.

What a bummer last night.   All the guys that were stars the last few years did nothing.  Bad luck?  washed up?  I was shocked.   What happened to Stone and Burton?   I am sure Travis and others may step away.   Add Markus, Henry?   I think its time to find a few new guys with Wisconsin connections?   Any ideas of other Wisconsin natives?
