Should we be worried or celebrate?

I noticed Whisky extended Gard until 2027.

I keep predicting a drop off, but it never seems to come.  He's not as good as Bo, but I think he does well.

He's a high floor, low ceiling coach IMO.  Will continue to have a bid rate around 85%, but I think it would take a pretty unique scenario for him to make a second weekend (with his own players at least).   The next decade, I predict one or two years where he doesn't make the dance, one "lighting in a bottle" run in the tourney, and 7 or 8 R64 or R32 exits.

He’s a very, very good coach. He does exactly what everyone here clamors for Shaka to do.

Install and run your system and recruit players who fit. Then win.

Most here, were they honest, would sell their virginity to have had a "Gard" coach in place of Woj, aina?

I don't think the drop off into nothingness, but their lack of recruiting talent is gonna hurt them eventually.  Unless you honestly think there is gonna be a Davis every 2-3 years, they have not had a top 100 recruit in the last 5 classes, and that doesn't look to change in 2022 or 2023.  Talent matters.  As we saw this year, it was a pretty meh team without a healthy Davis.

I can confidently say I think Wisconsin finishes outside the top 4 in the B10 more times in the next 5 years than in it and I'd be pretty surprised to see a S16 cause I don't think they are gonna have top 5 seeds.

No they won't be Nebraska or NW, but Gard's recruiting makes Bo look like Calipari.

Definitely not. The problem with Gard is different than it was with Wojo, but both have significant problems. Gard is no Bo. He doesn't have that type of ceiling. But even for Bo, it took what, 15 years for him to get close to the pinnacle with his system? I think it will take Gard even longer if he ever gets there. He's the type of guy who's never going to be bad enough to fire but will probably never be good enough to match Bo.

The upside with Wojo is that you could see what he was by the end of year 5 and just needed to wait long enough for him to start stepping on some rakes. As soon as he did, it was easy to justify firing him. I would rather have someone who is going to make their shortcomings obvious and pave the road to their own departure than someone who is going to do enough to never be in that departure discussion.

Also, these extensions are pretty commonplace at UW-Madison.  They extended Tony Granato and the hockey program is a disaster

Marquette shouldn’t give scholarship money to well-to-do suburban kids of the Twin Cities

That’s demonstrably false and shows you have no understanding of the modern landscape of college athletics

See y'all aren't honest. Or, you're so clouded in wokism that it's implied all teams should be equal, hey?

Celebrate!!!  Five more years of them having an inferior coach to Shaka!!

Why is it necessary to turn this thread into a racial discussion?  I asked a very simple question.

And here’s a simple answer.  Winter coaches at UW-Madison annually get their contracts rolled over this time of year if they’re not being fired so it’s a non-concern and SOP.

Thanks

I don't "celebrate" Gard getting his contract extended, but I'm certainly not worried about it.

Even Wojo did well against him (3-2), and soon Shaka will have Marquette on a better course than Madison.
