Sure he does. But the idea that local recruits are ours to lose is false.

They should be ours to lose.  Perhaps we need to increase our tenacity and marketing locally?

Why should they be "ours" to lose?

Hot take:

While I would have loved Hunter at MU, most local recruits end up being more of a headache than they're worth.

I believe Shaka will try harder to get local kids in the future

Wojo had poor relationships with the two top aau programs in the area. Local recruiting should improve. We're already heavy on Milan Mo just outside the city. Very good high major player.

We need to increase our influence locally when it comes to tier one talent if available.

Jalen Johnson and Patrick Baldwin Jr were even closer to campus than Hunter.  Should have got them too.  What happened to persuasion?
Did either say repeatedly that MU was their dream school?

Marketing needs to be better! Stores in the area don't even sell Marquette merchandise.  It's all badger crap

Yes.  T.  Hunter is much different recruit than these other guys.

I guess it wasn't though.

might be a licensing hang-up. But, if the Golden Eagle is on it, hard pass.
Badger crap. Agreed.

Watched his game today. Very fundamentally sound.  Incredible footwork in the post, great coordination, boxed out, and a nice passer.

Did most of his work in the post but looked fluid handling the ball. Clean shooting stroke but didn't attempt many perimeter shots today.  Hit a great fadeaway in the lane, which isn't a surprise after seeing his highlight vids.  He's also got a one legged Dirk style fadeaway in his repertoire, but at 10-15 feet instead of 20 feet like Dirk.

Long arms, slight build, not a high flyer but a functional athlete.  Physically a bit like Chet Holmgren, but not as tall or long.

An interesting prospect.  Wish I could see him matchup with bigger and more athletic  players to get a better idea of his college projection.

There's a teacher from Racine St Catherine's (Hunter's school) who knew him and said more than once that MU was his "dream school". Then we got Stevie Mitchell and Iowa St got him. What might have been...

I never should have publicly related that story.  Y'all won't let it go.   It was early in his recruitment.  I don't think he even mentioned Iowa State reaching out.

You must have missed the other story I told about his friends laughing at me for saying "I wish he would have picked Marquette" at the end of senior year.  Something changed. I never had the chance to ask Tyrese what.

That said, I had a big smile watching him dominate last night.  He's a good kid who has been through a ton.  He deserves all the praise he's getting.

And for y'all to stop whining about missing out.  Blame Wojo.

4everwarriors

That's right. Woj crapped da bed plenty and the diarrhea never ran down his legs more and into his shoes than with missin' on Hunter and Davis, hey?

Anyway great for Hunter but this game was a bit of an outlier.
I believe he was Big12 Freshman of the yea, also I heard he may test the NBA waters.

I should have been more clear, the way he shot the ball was a bit of an outlier.

He is a six foot guard that shoots 68% from the FT line, and 28% from three even after going 7-11 in a game.

Testing the waters for him is going to last all of 3 hours.

Kolek had a better offensive rating than Hunter this year.  Both turned it over too much but had good assist rates.

If Hunter commits as a Wojo recruit and sticks around and puts up the numbers he did this year, I can think of a few people who would say "clear the decks" and let him go.

Hunter looked poised and composed under the bright lights of the NCAA tournament last night. Something this MU team could have used.

Probably longer than Lewis, doe. I think Lewis is gone regardless. Seemed completely disinterested this season, even when he could have been the alpha dog, hey?
