Just Breathe
« on: March 17, 2022, 05:54:35 PM »
Today was objectively awful and hard to watch. However, the season as a whole was wildly successful. Shaka took a group of mixed parts that never really fit to the tourney, if you told me in November we’d make the tourney I would’ve taken it in a heartbeat while also not believing it.

Deep breath, the future is bright, let’s give Shaka a chance once he gets the guys he wants for his system.

Awful game, but that's all it was.  Flush the toilet on this one and move on.

Let the silly season begin.

Agreed. The fact that Shaka took this group of misfits to the tournament is all I can ask for as a fan.

It’s not Shaka’s fault that Wojo drilled the program into the ground for 7 years. Really getting desperate for a tournament win though.

Picked 9th in big East preseason, making the tourney, beating Nova twice…

Shaka gets a C grade. Was one of 64 teams to make the tournament and finished in the middle of the conference. A few good wins, a few bad losses.

Upside Perspective - made the tourney year 1

Downside Perspective - Feb/March “fades” are a real thing.

Let’s see what the offseason looks like before we evaluate next year. Some key pieces are leaving, but the portal provides an opportunity to find better players then the ones that transferred in this year.

Was not a projo and still understand how we overperformed expectations.

they exceeded bottom tier big east level expectations. yay.... doesnt mean much to me. the trending down the last 3rd of season and a historic loss in the tournament feels like it bears more weight

He recruited every player for this team except the first team all Big East one.

Look, the last six weeks was bad.  The same things we criticized Wojo and Crean for, the lack of preparation and adjustments, were front and center during the end of the year.  Frankly it is frustrating.

That's how you want to process it.  For me it's the opposite.  No one is right or wrong yet....let's see how Shaka builds and how players develop into next season.

Whose expectations? External expectations are worthless to me. Do you think the team met their internal expectations?

You’re proving my point. Relying on freshman and transfers as the majority of your team is almost impossible unless they’re all McDonald’s all Americans. He inherited a team w Lewis and Elliott and made the tourney, to me that seems impressive.

I am not saying the season was a failure.  But you said "gets the guys he wants for his system."  Pretty much every guy on the team was a guy he wanted.

So you don't think there were limits in regards to how he could build this team?   :o

I never said that.  I just don't think the initial statement was accurate.

He picked the guys on this roster, that's true.  But I think you have to acknowledge that there's a fundamental difference between how he had to go about putting this year's team together to be competitive for this season, and building the program over the long term.

I will note the fact that you significantly shifted the goalposts.  But sure.

You're judged by NCAA results.  In the last ten years, MU is 0-3 with an average margin of defeat of 23.7 points.  There's a long way to go for this program and coach.
