As I effen said.

I know we weren't playing great, but we actually have folks fearing St. John's and even effen Georgetown? What the hell?

We Are Marquette, goddam it!

Looking forward to another battle with Nova, this time in the BET title game.

The fear about a home game vs St Johns was bewildering.

It really was. And then so many who consider themselves both MU fans and knowledgeable about basketball actually worrying about Georgetown, too. It's like bizarro world.

I think you are 100% right when Marquette is playing like they were in January.  Hell I made a ton of money betting on that line of thinking.  But bewildering is a strong word the way we were playing entering this game.

82, I'm glad you were right and believe we are now in perfect position to do damage in the BET especially if they can clean up about 8-10 unforced errors per game.

Play like we did in January and we are loaded for bear.

PointWarrior

Clean up the unforced TO's and missed bunnies - this team is good.  Get some damn rebounds and they could be really good.

I would have understood some trepidation if we were playing a good team on the road. But we were playing a meh team at home, on Senior Night, with a lot on the line for us and little on the line for them.

Folks get too pessimistic too easily. So many were insisting that these final few weeks were some kind of carryover from "fades" involving teams that had absolutely nothing to do with this one. Just silliness.

Anyhoo, I absolutely agree that if we can find the January mojo, we'll be a beyotch for our opponents. Creighton's the first to fall. Looking forward to it1

I agree.  Can we ask Darrell to hit the gym for the next three days and do nothing but dribble and pass a BB?  Some of his turnovers are confounding.

Nope. Watched every game.

It was fair to be concerned about tonight. I was. I also fully expected a win.  There's a difference between concern and peeing your pants over a game.

Hah.  I expect only a few Scoopers peed their pants tonight, but those folks probably wear diapers any time they go out these days.

Not bewildering. I wasn't afraid, but I get it.

A few possessions the other way in the last 5 minutes and MU is playing Georgetown on wed and the fans implode and the players/coach are filled with doubt.

It was a huge game, and the fear was warranted. StJ played well and it wasn't an easy win

Disagree and maybe it's just semantics. I see a pretty big difference between fear and concern.

Ok well let's talk data then.

At this point in the season a win or loss can mean a seed line in the dance.

If MU loses they likely can't get up to the 7 line or better without a run to the final, or win, of the BET imo.
If they lose and lose to Gtown that's possibly a 10 seed, but definitely no bette than 8/9.

With this win, if they win on Thursday I'm still confident in a 7 seed. If they win the BET I'd be shocked if they didn't get a 6 or better- keep in mind that would mean like 9 Q1 wins which is top 3 in the country, a very solid SOS and an overall record of 22-11 with 2/3 wins over Providence and Villanova (top 4 seeds).

So that's a possibility of a 10 seed to 6/5seed swing in one calendar week.
The probability of winning a single game as a 10, or an 8/9, versus a 7 or a 6 is quite different.
So, MU now has a nice draw to go show that it deserves that 7 or 6 seed

Fear St. John's at home? And even Georgetown? That's just silly.

All great but that has zero to do with what I was discussing.

My point is that you have to take the fear in context.

The fear wasn't because of St. John's, it was because of the importance of the game and the recent performances.

If you sit in on an MRI after you decimate your knee you aren't as scared as if you sit in on that same machine if you are following up on suspicious biopsy results

Nice call!

I have had confidence going into most games this year but I hated this game matchup-wise.

Holding a lead against a pressure team like St. John's from wire to wire is impressive. Nice tune up for the games that matter most!
VIOLENCE!
