Why has MU's attendance fallen off so drastically?

Looking quickly at the numbers, it seems MU's attendance is down about 15%.  In comparison, Wisconsin's is down about 3%.  UWM seems to be up.  Covid can account for a some of the problem, but certainly not all. 

Shaka's a big name and I would have thought it would provide a boost in interest.

So what's the main problem?  Wojo killed the program?  Game times?  People don't want to go downtown?

Most likely a combination of factors. Covid, sure but we also had a terrible season last year. Attendance tends to be affected by a combination of previous year results and future expectations (picked 9th this year). Most of the tickets sold are to STHs and given those two factors I think a lot of people didn't buy or reduced their number. Get a tourney win/run and watch the numbers jump next year.

-bucks are really good (more casual fans going to bucks games as a result)

Attendance will be a delayed effect. I expect it to go up next year back to normal levels. We can revisit it then.

Have to disagree.  It's pretty obvious we made the wrong choice in head coach.  Woke activism has infiltrated Marquette and the lack of talent brought in by Shaka is damning.  Marquette basketball is built on a legacy of hard work and fundamental basketball.  The best days of Marquette included a coach who believed in kids towing the line socially and academically.  Individualism and flamboyance was frowned upon and kids knew their place.  The program was built by kids like Brad Davison and we currently lack anyone like that.  One wonders what attendance would look like if we had more gym rats and kids who quoted the Bible on social media.  Things are pretty sad at the moment.

I think Covid showed that watching the games on TV was much less expensive and more convenient than going to actual games. I went to one game this year as a guest of my friend. I enjoyed being at the game, but not enough to make me want to spend money and time to go back to seeing games in person.
