Justin Lewis making a very strong case for his candidacy.

Said it elsewhere but I think it's a two man race between Lewis and Gillespie. I think RJ Cole is a distant 3rd.

Champagne would be there if SJU was better. Maybe they will make a push. Moore and Sanogo are in the conversation but I think they are overshadowed by Gillespie and Cole. I could be convinced that Sanogo deserves to be above Cole

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

Beating Villanova a second time would put Marquette within striking distance of winning the Big East.
With two wins against Villanova, there would be a strong case for Justin being player of the year.
How does Justin and Marquette stack up against Jae Crowder and the MU team that was co-Big East conference winner?

BrewCity83

There's half a conference season left to play, but JL is off to a good start.  He's the only player in the top 5 in both scoring and rebounding.  If he continues to improve his numbers as he's trending, and the team continues to win, he could definitely win it.

Will East Coast bias allow it?

In his presser after he adjusted to double JFL after halftime, Hurley called him All Big East back then.  Since then, and Shaka noted this last night in his presser, that JFL has really improved on reading the defense and reacting, including sharing and setting up his teammates. He sighted finding Kam in the corner on that break.

Earlier in the year, if JLew got the ball, it wasn't coming out.  OMax needs to follow that example.

He sulks too much and takes too many possessions off.

God, I hope not, but it looks very possible.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

That was a fun Scoop "slap of five" narrative for about 15 minutes.

I have said it to friends offline but if MU wins 2 of the next three they become odds on favorites to win the big East.

If you look at the remaining schedule nova, UConn, providence, and Creighton play each other a lot. MU plays teams, but Creighton, in the bottom 4 ( SJU , Butler x2, Georgetown, and DePaul).

They'll probably just share the award between Justin, Gillespie, and Justin Moore.

Yup. And give 2 kids newcomer of the year. Maybe split COY and DPOY.

Bad look by the conference.

100% agree. He has the points and rebounding stats to do it, now its just up to the team record.

The page formatting is... not good, but the Big East website has individual stat leaders based on conference games only: https://bigeastconf_ftp.sidearmsports.com/custompages/sports/m-baskbl/2021-2022/confonly.htm#conf.wki.  ESPN and Sports-Ref's appeared to be based on all games.

Not sure it means much for year-end honors, but Kolek is head and shoulders ahead of anyone else for assists per game and third for steals per game.  Some of that is due to our pace of play but his assist% is excellent as well.
