The rematch should be very interesting. Did we take them out of their game or did they just have a bad shooting night. The next game with them will answer that.

Hopefully Shaka will pass his first test.

Thanks, Tower.

Also, for those with an Athletic subscription, there’s a great article about Lewis and Shaka.

For the old-timers like Goose, the relationship sounds almost Al - Toone-ish.

Was that Justin’s family in the crowd. Thought I saw Mr Joplin in the crowd along with Allison and Barb Kellaher. Someone said the game was over when Greg was singing the song I believe is called “I Am A Boss” coming out of the timeout with 3 minutes left.

Any video of this? I loved it at the time. He was enjoying the moment. Not scared of it. Love that!

That was awesome! I get such a kick out of his demeanor when he gets rolling and feeling good about himself. Infectious.

Saw Greg singing.  It made me smile.   Dovetails into the interaction with Darryl later.

Who?

Exactly, who?  Even Wojo's mom agrees this has been a great coaching change.  Interesting that after the 0-3 Big East start, I saw some Twit-heads posting "Fire Shaka" tweets and questioning his style, etc. #weird  ::)

Loved when I saw Greg out there singing and dancing coming out of that break. Honestly, it's been super fun to see all the players sort of "feeling themselves." Says a lot about the culture Shaka is setting up here (and reinforced by the articles out today) about letting the guys go out there and feel in their element--and listening to what makes them feel that. Wasn't sure how well he'd fit this year in the new system, but I've always loved how Greg can be a spark when everything feels like an uphill battle, and this year he's really showcasing it.

I loved it too.  Then he made that dumb bounce pass to Kur in the lane and almost threw my remote.

But really I do love how the seniors are showing the way here.  During the key tie up toward the end, it was Greg and Daryl on the floor.

For as much as we worried about his defense (he still has lapses, no oneis perfect), I love how active he is on trying to get swipes. A couple of big plays where he poked the ball out or disrupted the flow of the guy with the ball (the biggest being the one that led to the layup). Oso had some big ones as well.

It was a dumb pass.    If you are going to hit Kur there, you lob it ahead of him toward the hoop.     Ah, well.

Fun fact #1: Since 2013-14, the two most difficult road conference games are Villanova at the Finn (42-2) and Kansas at Phog Allen (69-5).

Fun fact #2: Since January 14, 2020 in conference games, Villanova at the Finn and Kansas at Phog Allen are a combined 34-2. Both losses came to team coached by Shaka Smart.

Yeah I loved Greg singing. Looked like he was trash talking at first standing next to Nova guys. Then I realized he was just into the music.

Anyone seen the Shaka post-game presser? Usually Marquette posts those, but haven't seen it anywhere.

I think he is also the one that dove toward the ball and caused dixon? and morsell to tie it up to give us possession late.

Yup...That was a huge play.

This team is so much fun to watch for so many reasons, but for me, I really enjoy seeing the player development.  Outside of possibly Joplin and Ellis (and they've certainly had moments) I think every player has to feel like they are playing better than they expected.  The player development is phenomenal.  They showed a stat that was something like DM played at Maryland for 4 years without scoring 20pts and now has done it in 5 games for MU.  Kur playing big minutes and doing more than he could imagine.  Kam, Stevie, O-Max, Oso having big games.  TK turning into a point guard.  Greg putting himself in the doghouse and being allowed to get himself out, and of course, Justin being allowed to be the leader he is.  Who the hell isn't going to want to play for MU?

Don't feel bad.
It was at least a month before I got brewcity77's signature. I was wondering what the heck he said to Kur on social media...

Also brew -- and don't get me wrong, I love Kur and what he brings -- but if you ever want a new sig for the offensive side of the ball:

Why does Kur never leave his pets at home?
Because he's always missing his bunnies.
