When did the ACC become the worst power conference in the country?

(FYI - 22 of the 25 ranked teams are from the power conferences below, the exceptions are Zags #5, Houston #14, BYU #24)

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/standings

The ACC only has one ranked team, Duke #3

PAC-12 = 3, UCLA #4, AZ #11, USC #16

BE = 3, Nova #6, Uconn #15, Hall #23

B12 = 4, Bay #2, 4, Texas #7, KU #8, ISU #14

B1G = 4, Purdue #1, MSU #19, tOSU #22, Bucky #23

SEC = 7, Bama #9, Kent #10, Ark #12, Tenn #13, Auburn #18, Fla #20, LSU #25

Amazing how this changes year to year.  The SEC a few years ago was terrible aside from Kentucky and now they have 6 teams in the top twenty.  The SEC will be a grind.

ACC hasn't been great since expansion a decade ago.  Its had good years but the top basketball schools have rarely been top-10ish teams at the same time.  I consider those Duke, UNC and Louisville now.

Duke has embraced one-and-dones and I think that's probably hurt them from a roster cohesion standpoint and makes them vulnerable to a team like Virginia or other teams that are often veteran squads. They've also lacked great shooters the last few years.

Virginia has been the one consistent team the last half decade or so, along with FSU.

Georgia Tech, NC State and Wake Forest have had moments recently but haven't approached past sustained success.

Louisville has been beset with off-court issues.  UNC has been "eh" since the '17 title.  Those two need to be top programs.  I'd argue Syracuse, too.  The Orange are just mistcast in the ACC

You're right.  The ACC poaching the Big East hasn't worked the way they were hoping as far as results go.  They were hoping to be the Big East part two and it hasn't happened yet.

Wow! If the Orange are miscast what about BC or even Pitt?

Pitt are underdogs against a sub .500 Patriot League team tonight. Their glory days are long gone and not coming back anytime soon. I wouldn't swap DePaul for them.

It's easy to see why many in the coaching community despise the Coach K coaching tree. Jeff Capel did absolutely nothing to earn a second job and is now cashing Pitt checks while driving the program deep into the ground.

I think BC has an ACC title somewhere in their history.  Pitt is miscast as well.

Nice summary. UVA has been strong for a number of years but this year they have lost to Navy and James Madison and they barely escaped Pitt, winning by one point. I am sure Bennett will right the ship but they have their problems this season so far.

UNC and Duke passing on the HC jobs to assistants will be interesting. I wonder if Wojo had stayed at Duke, would he be heir apparent now.

Wild horses couldn't drag me into either political party, but for very different reasons.

Based on the fact that they are going with Scheyer, I'd say absolutely. I guess it's more comforting to just go with the guy who hasn't exposed himself yet. The guy couldn't hack it here, but I think Duke should have actually given Wojo more consideration over Scheyer if that is the direction they were going in. Anyone would be a lot better of a coach if they are coaching Duke level talent.

BC has zero in men's basketball, both regular season and ACC tourney. Most recent NCAA was 2009. BC has been a complete non-factor in the ACC and nationally since moving to the ACC.

A friend and BC alum I know claims he has not watched BC basketball in 10 years. I think they average 5,000 attendance per game. Very bad considering they have the likes of Duke, NC, Cuse, Virginia, etc on the schedule.
