Trypto-phantom menace
« on: November 27, 2021, 08:58:35 PM »
1.   A cupcake.    The first time all year MU hasn't had to fight like hell just to win.   It felt like MU vs. itself.
2.   Shaka sent a message with the line change.
3.   It just seemed workmanlike.    I am not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing.     Some good, some bad.   Overmatched opponent.
4.   Two straight blah games for Morsell.    Is it possible that as Morsell goes, so goes the team?  Can't have the frustration after a blocked shot.
5.  Kolek only marginally better.
6.   Kuath with some nice blocks.
7.   Actually, a lot of guys had nice 'moments'.    I am not sure anyone actually had a great game.
8.   On the flip side, a lot of other teams have 'bad losses.'     MU doesn't.
9.   Building blocks and process.

Mostly slept-walked through this one. Pretty dull performance.

Morsell is taking way too much time to launch his shot. I think he is playing head games with himself on O.

6 negative or neutral points out of 10.

We won by 14.  We are 6-1. Don’t be so hard on everything. Shaka is a good coach. This program is poised to make noise. Namaste.

It was a win.  It wasn't inspiring.  Better that than a bad loss.

This is correct.  We have a lot of work to do.  And by a lot I mean a ton.

These guys have played 7 games together. No one on the team has played together other than Greg and Jamal before this season.
I think we are ahead of schedule. Not worried.

Stevie showed flashes of what he can do tonight….and had his best collegiate game.
He was one of the few who brought the energy.

Yep. I thought he was the best player to wear the Marquette uniform tonight.

Playing down to competition isn’t exactly new in sports. They did that and still won comfortably. More importantly this team has already shown they can play up to competition.

Really liked Shaka subbing all 5. Thought he should have done the same vs. St. Bonaventure. The second unit gave the team great energy, yes, but they also played quite well together. I can just imagine that while the subs were kicking butt, Shaka was telling the starters: "This is what I need from you!"

Mitchell was really good. He was in control, he looked to get to the rim, he hit a 3, he had only 1 TO (on a night when we had 20). Just a nice all-around performance for the freshman.

After averaging 22.5 ppg on 54% shooting (57% from 3) in our first 4 games, Morsell is averaging 8 points on 22% shooting (11% from 3) the last 3. He looked frustrated a couple times tonight, and perhaps it affected his D as he let his man past him on a few occasions. Here's hoping the first-4-games Darryl is closer to the real Darryl.

Kolek also has looked meh the last couple of games, and he has 11 turnovers the last 3 games. Need better, more predictable play from the guy who's gonna have the rock most of the time.

Another fine game for Lewis. After spotting Morsell a pretty large lead, Justin is now the scoring leader by 1 ppg. The picture of consistent scoring: 17, 17, 17, 21, 17, 17, 15. Also the leading rebounder at 8.1 rpg.

OMP reminds me of a young Juan Anderson. Lots of activity but not a lot to show for it.

Kuath doing his job, in limited minutes, as a rim protector.

Kam and Joplin are not shy to shoot.

Pretty boring game, but that's OK. A boring win is better than an exciting loss!

1. Kur Kuath has been a pleasant surprise.  I was hoping at best for a Ousmane Barro or Chris Otule.  He has shown he is as good a shot blocker as Theo John and can finish at the rim.
2. IMHO Justin Lewis is the face of MU BB.  It is awesome he didn't transfer.
3. Players still learning the system and playing with each other.
4. Morsell I hope is a team player and not one just wanting to showcase his talents for NBA scouts.  A number of times it appeared he was determined to take the shot although he was well covered.
5. The sloppiness and turnovers looked very similar to MU the past two years.  Can't give the ball to the opponent as easily as MU did last night.
6. I like the concept of two MU lines (term as used in hockey).  Why not, if one line can't get the job done and plays poorly, maybe the other can and inspire the poorly playing one to up its game.  Nice option to have high talent on the bench.

From what we have seen of the NET rankings previously do they take into account wins and losses more than Kenpom?   Are they weighted more than they are in ken Pom which seems to care much more about how the game is won or lost and not necessarily the binary outcome?

Just curious.
