Interesting to note that Alabama, Arkansas, Minnesota, Nevada and Southern Illinois will all NOT be playing in the NCAA Tournament this year.

Yep. Judge recruiting classes based upon results, not rankings coming in.

Thats exactly my point.  Jamil Wilson is a five star recruit who resides down the road.  His style fits MU's offense and I believe his family wants him to stay close.  If we lose him to a prominent ACC school, then it is a big loss to our program.  MU should be prominent.

Last coach to get five star recruits like it was a grocery store was Al, who results speak for themselves. Nothing more to be said about five stars, except now the majority of them leave after one/two years.  Lets start in 2009, we have a four star in Eric Williams, and then in 2010 with Flavian Davis and Nate Lubick from Mass.

All I'm saying is don't be surprised if he goes out of state.  His mom has passed away, I'm sure they would love to have him play close by.  Conversely, would Lazar Hayward's family like him closer to home?  How about Taylor, Williams, Otule?  It's great to get the home town guy, I hope we do, but when you're putting the decision into a 17 year old kid's hands, you just never know.

NYG, still think we are only going to win 2 more Big East games?

nyg

Can't recall ever stating that we would only win 2 more BE games.

My bad, it was MU NY.  Too many NY guys on this board.   ;)

nyg

Apology accepted.  As we look right now, even though shooting about 20% and should be up by 20, this looks like win #1.

ChicosBailBonds

I just like the hustle....nothing worse then shooting like crap and moping about it.  They're missing and getting after it.  Barro looks good so far as does Burke.

Keep up the pressure boys

Wilson will NOT be showing up at MU unless its to play in a pick-up game.

nyg

And where is his destination to be?  Please let us know.

How can he not get the four to five star recruits?  Big East and numerous games on National television.  Whoops, maybe it would help to win one of those.  The prospects do watch.  2009 is the big year for TC and the program. James, McNeal, Matthews and Burke wiil be gone.  He has an excellent start in Eric Williams, who is having an outstanding junior year.  It all revolves around closing the deal with Jamil Wilson.  I believe he is a must have, no doubt about it recruit for MU.

What the heck is a "must have" recruit? Does Marquette suspend the program for four years if Jamil Wilson goes elsewhere?
Enough with the silliness.

Regarding 4/5 star recruits, according to Scout (and Rivals) since 2002:

Trevor Mbakwe, Four stars
Damian Saunders, Four stars
LaZar Hayward, Four stars (also four from Rivals)
Dominic James, Four stars (also four from Rivals)
Jerel McNeal, Four stars (also four from Rivals)
Wes Matthews, Four stars (also four from Rivals)
Dameon Mason, Four stars (also four from Rivals)
Steve Novak, Four stars
Chris Grimm, Four stars
Joe Chapman, Four stars

Well based on the fact that yesterday you said McNeal was the two time defending defensive player of the year, your guess work / knowledge base might need a bit tweaking.

But yet, it's certainly possible he won't be at MU.

For perspective, this from yesterday's Providence Journal where PC coachTim Welsh is under fire:

"There are those who like to moan about how difficult it is for PC to compete in the Big East.  But should it really be appreciably harder to recruit a kid to Providence than to Milwaukee (Marquette) or Morgantown (West Virginia), or to schools such as seton Hall, DePaul, Cincinnati, South Florida, Rutgers or struggling St. John's?"

[iHaving lived in both locales,  I can tell you that there is NO comparison between Milwaukee and Providence and I mean that in Milwaukee's favor.

I actually agree that Crean does a good job with what he has. But the name of the game is recruiting and he's done a very average job of it.

Among schools in the top 30, according to Rivals:

Alabama
Arkansas
Minnesota
Nevada
Southern Illinois
Xavier
Wisconsin

Is it easier to recruit to those schools than it is to Marquette?

Interesting to note that Alabama, Arkansas, Minnesota, Nevada and Southern Illinois will all NOT be playing in the NCAA Tournament this year.

Just sayin.  And yes, it's easier to recruit to Alabama (weather, girls, grades, state school), Arkansas (weather, girls, grades, state school), Minnesota  (girls, grades, state school), Nevada (weather, girls, grades, state school), etc

No NCAA and yet highly ranked high school seniors are planning to attend?

By the way Arkansas weather is horrendous as is there previous choice in governors.

I heard their libraries are just as terrible as well. But what school would to choose PRN?

PuertoRicanNightmare

If I were a player? Hard to say which one would be tops on the list.

But all things being equal -- not taking the coach into consideration -- I can tell you what schools I would absolutely NOT attend:

Arkansas
Minnesota
Nevada
Southern Illinois

I would consider Marquette, Alabama, Xavier and Wisconsin.

Highly ranked seniors are going there to play because the have spots for them....personally, I'll take NCAA appearances.

Are you saying the Arkansas weather is worse than Milwaukee

While those may be your preferences, I can guarantee you that just about every kid from Arkansas or Minnesota (especially now that Tubby is there) would at least consider those schools, if not place them among the favorites.
