Who will Marquette take on in Charleston? I expect if they win their second game, there's a good chance they'll see one of these two teams. The Bonnies are ranked for the first time in 50 years while Boise State is looking to bounce back from another late-season collapse. Cracked Sidewalks takes a quick look at two of Marquette's potential final opponents in Charleston.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.  You'll probably want to follow up.  I suspect Dayton fans.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

And CS guys, you should probably always give out the secure URLs, and try to redirect any traffic from the regular http stuff.

edit:  https probably won't fix it.  I've reached out to topper with info.

Bump.

Great win but I'm already on to the next.

Let's bring this title home.

Great write up by Brew, as always. Love reading these before the game.

Cliff notes version for the TLDR crowd

—They return and start 5 seniors, all of which averaged double figures last season (9 seed in the dance)
—They have 0 quality bench depth.
—They try to slow the pace and hope to avoid foul trouble because of their lack of depth.
—Seem smallish to me, with one try big man

So, run early, run often, press hard and don't let up. Be aggressive and get right after them, get them in foul trouble (especially the big man) and MU should be in good shape.

With an extra day of prep this seems to be right in Shakas wheelhouse.

The Bonnie's are one of the slowest tempo teams in the nation.  Badgers-esque but slower.  They don't turn it over and get to the line at a decent rate and are pretty good FT shooting team.  They don't make 3's at a high clip but shoot them around 34% as a team.  Not much of a rebounding team.

They're solid defensively and haven't shown a tendency to foul.  They don't force a ton of turnovers.

Of all the early-season matchups, this is the most fascinating to me from a style matchup

Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

I think a huge asset for the Bonnie's is their crowd.  They have the largest one here, although the WV crowd was pretty dominant as well.  Marquette is a lot quicker, and our pace should wear them out.  Be loud, fellow warriors in the stands!

The arena sits 5100. I'd estimate there were 4000 Bonnie fans there against Clemson.

Wow that's sort of expected. If we were ranked 22 I'm sure we'd have great numbers down there too

Good for the Bonnies being ranked #22, but who have they really beat?  Clemson is the best of the bunch, and they barely squeaked by them.  I will say that their pace will be a challenge. Their starters all play large minutes, 35+ per game.  If we can test their bench, we have the advantage.

It's not about this year. They were a 9 seed last year and returned all 5 starters. #22 sounds about right.

Championship game bump. Two keys to today...

First is fouls. MU has drawn at least 17 in every game. SBU hasn't committed more than 16 in any game. If the number to 17+, I like Marquette's odds, moreso if any of their starters (all have played 30+ minutes every game in Charleston) foul out.

Second is possessions. SBU has played 3/4 games at 62 or fewer possessions, MU has played all five at 69+ (nice). SBU doesn't turn teams over, so if this gets into the 70s, that likely means MU is forcing turnovers. The faster this game goes, the more likely we win.

That is good for our team. We can get some experience against a hostile crowd. Good prep for Big East.

Why won't Kur Kuath answer my DMs?

^^^ very nice, along with the 69+ possessions
