Well, third topic of discussion, not third place.

It's a good set of observations about Shaka and MU.

For those who don't read it, MU picked to finish 10th. I don't believe it.

But really positive comments about Smart and Marquette.

Agreed, aside from this years prediction, all the analysts were very positive about the hire and the past and future of our program.  I like Lunardi saying the college basketball is better when Marquette is back on the national radar.

MU82

But this isn't some "we're lucky to have you" situation. Marquette wants to win. And they want to win soon.

Are we really that difficult of a fan base to please? I think for the most part our expectations are reasonable.

I think we had patience for Wojo, but seeing the same movie multiple times made it seem best for both to move on.

Between multiple podcasts and now this article referencing it, I'd say we're a difficult fanbase to please.

I think we were. Now we're just apathetic.

Lunardi nails it:

QuoteThe Golden Eagles were long overdue for a fresh start. Smart brings a real buzz back to the program. If he wins like the actual Buzz (Williams), and I think he'll at least come close, college basketball will be better for having Marquette back on the stage.

The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

Will we have patience for Shaka or will he be on a shorter leash as far as the fanbase is concerned? Goose, I know you have high hopes for Shaka, but is 3 years enough to turn the program around and trending in the right direction?

tower912

Will he graduate players?  Will they stay out of the police blotters?   Will they be active  the community?   As meh as Wojo was on the court, the AD called him ideal off the court.
So, unless there is a succession of scandals, I am sure that he will get 5-7 years.

Difficult question to answer. First, I am beyond high on Shaka and what he brings to MU. The question is tough to answer because IMO, if Shaka ends up not winning big here I am not sure it will ever happen again. So, I am going to critical, if needed, starting with the opening tip this season, but I think he should be given a long leash if needed.

The Shaka hire was a big time hire and gets high praise pretty much across the board. IMO, he better get the job done and get done from his first game. I said after the hire was announced that Shaka has no wiggle room in my book. He has the resume to win and to turn things around quickly.

I think it depends on what you mean by turned around. He better have started the turn around months ago when he got here. If you mean high NCAAT seeds and deep postseason runs, I think that's a 3-5 year expectation. In the mean time, we should see improved coaching, improved player development, and improved identity.

Goose, TAMU,

Thanks. I'm in my mid 70s and in reasonably good health. If I'm impatient its because if I'm lucky I may see another 10-12 years of MU ball. So from my perspective he better get it done. This Warrior does not want to fade away, but go out with a bang!

These commentators have not taken the time to look at the construction of our team. I like the players we have and our coaches philosophy .

MU going to surprise a lot of the pundits this year .

Got to give the new coach a chance.
He has shown he can win, which is what many of us demand.
If he can't well, we know that road.
If he is successful he will probably leave, if past coaches are any indication.
In any case, Go Marquette!

You got to give the young players a chance. I do not think we will be good this year, but I think the players we have will become very good players.
