Young, but the pieces are there.   Assuming Garcia returns and nobody leaves..
5 guys 6'7 or taller.
7 guards 6'2 to 6'5

Rotate them quickly and get after them.   The question is how quickly all the youth can learn and adapt.

Shaka has said that the change in rules prevents Havoc from coming back.  What we will have are more players with athleticism than we have had in the past.  Hopefully that leads to wins.

Daniel

Still need a center tho right?  Is one scholllie left if Garcia returns?

Havoc like he ran it at VCU, sure.   Pressure like SJU or Florida State runs is still doable, particularly with a long, deep team.

This program will look a a lot like FSU on the court, IMO. Shaka is signing guys that can be aggressive on the entire court and going to bring exciting basketball to MU.

As constructed, this team has to play fast. They don't have the physicality yet.

I think I put it somewhere else re: the height of this team, but my thoughts exactly.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

The most interesting question to ask now, who plays and who seats.  First, starting 5 no idea.  Assume Dawson if he comesback, Lewis, Carton givens, the other
2 spots are up to grab.  Ellis or Mitchell have a chance at the point, at the small forward I can see Joplin or Elliott at that spot.  But you can have a different lineups  everyday until they are on campus.

We will see how Shaka coaches these kids up hopefully.  Lots of moving parts.  Any thoughts?

Don't sleep on senior leadership. I'd pencil Greg in for a starting role.

Way too early.    Assuming Garcia comes back, the only two I am comfortable projecting as starters are Garcia and Carton.

This - it will be the modern day version of havoc where we are pressuring in the half court and making the offense uncomfortable with switches happening all over and long/athletic players flying all over getting deflections.  Rebounding will be the concern but love having the defensive identity starting to take shape right in front of our eyes.

If he is around, I think he gets it.    Who jumped when Theo missed the game late in the season?    Garcia or Lewis?   I honestly can't remember.

Start Itejere and sub him out the first stoppage so Garcia can come in

Yes, when you're very young at the guard position it's going to be an up and down season.  .500 overall record would be the over/under in my estimation.  17+ wins in a 30 game season and improved play in March would be a decent success in my book.  Also need to know what the Big East will look like.  Villanova will be elite, but how do the other programs shape up?  MU will go as far as its Freshmen guards can take them.

FSU my ass.

The hallmark of Al's teams was tenacious, smothering D. Every game we got  multiple 5 second calls on inbounds and 10 second calls getting to half court.

Before the slam dunk it was a 5 second call that got the Arena rocking.

I am looking forward to Shaka's teams delivering the same high intensity defense that allowed Al's teams to control the tempo and tenor of a game.

Death on call

No doubt 5-7 minutes a game that full court press rocked the joint. The five second and ten second violations were the signature of Al's D. I suspect we will be seeing similar in the upcoming seasons.

The game has changed too much in the last 45 years for anything like this to work.

Not even Shaka's VCU defense can be run anymore.

Yup.  He may incorporate pressure defense and some full court press from time-to-time but you won't see havoc as it was in 2011.  I'm still anticipating it being far better and more productive than the previous regime, however
