‘Barro with another easy miss’
« on: February 09, 2008, 12:47:26 PM »
You all heard the announcer say this in the first half against Notre Dame.

Ousmane Barro is a joke, a ridiculous joke, and Dwight Burke is a close second. We are beatable because our big men are so laughably inept, especially offensively.

Even a platoon of pretty good guards cannot make up for big men who come nowhere close to having the skills needed to play at this level.

Ousmane Barro’s performance at the start of the game …
« Reply #1 on: February 09, 2008, 02:50:17 PM »
… provided a perfect "highlights" reel for his typical play: easy shots missed, good passes bobbled, fouls committed early and clumsily.

Overall, Barro continues to look lost out there much of the time -- especially on offense.

His play and his inability to play are reasons we lost today and are at risk of losing down the road against teams with strong, skilled, reliable big men.

It is not only what Barro does that puts MU at a disadvantage. It is what he is unable to do.

You heard it here first. Davante Gardner will be a Beast this year.

At least half could have been his missed layups.

Barro did not cost us this game. Take a look at Jerel McNeal boxscore and ill advised plays.

It is not only what Ousmane Barro does that puts Marquette at a disadvantage. It is what he is unable to do.

Some pretty fine guards cannot be expected to cover for and make up for all that Barro does not bring to the floor.

in a game this close you could point to a dozen specific things that could be argued cost us the game.  It's unfair to blame anyone specific, but i agree mcNeal missed layups stand out.

Yes, we all know he is limited, but when he went out today we lost leads and/or ND extended leads.  Harangody didn't have a great game in the post...it was the other four ND players in double figures that killed us.  For better or worse, we are a better team with Ooze in the game in the BE--mainly because he is a disruptor.

What is worse is that McNeal and Barro COMBINED went 4-24.

It is frustrating to watch out bigs play.  Barro had one great game, but wow - consistency is not our strong suit.  Burke had one great move under the basket today when he scrored, but our bigs don't score much.  Really, all we need is a combined 12 - 14 points TOTAL from the two of them - adn we'd win more games.  It was our Achilles heal going into the year, but we thought Mbakwe would help some,  His absence has hurt, but I think =even with him, we would have struggled underneath.

Barro is the most frustrating because he had a solid Junior year - we expected more of him.  There is not reason he can't score 6  - 10 points a game, and Burke pick up the rest.  If we had those inside shots drop today we win.  Not just his, but Jerel's etc.  We have missed way too many chip shots as a team over the last 6 games.

If we turn that around and play the rest of the games like we played today, we can do well.

As bad as Baroo was jerel was even worse, his missed wide open layup in the last minute capsulized his day.  I actually thought we played extremely well but simply could not over come Jerel and barro who were absolutely terrible within 3 feet of the rim.  jerel tries to use his right hand to make left handed layups, something 3rd graders not D1 guards, could be accused of.  We played well but could not over come those two.  Jerel kills this team, his stupid quick threes kill us too.

Barro was awful today. He sucked. No more excuses, what a pathetic performance. Hayward was damn good and James was solid. I sure as heck hope Mbakwe and Otule are ALOT better than our current bigs. I don't know exactly, but I think Barro missed about 8 layups today. Maybe we should change our name to the Marquette Golden Layups.   >:(
