Somewhere on this site is a photo that someone's relative took of that tip in.  It is from the baseline, facing out toward the mid-court scoreboard.  Couldn't have been more than 10 feet away from the basket.

It is clear as day that the ball was tipped in with time left on the clock. 

I wish I had saved it when I saw it.

Yes, it happened.  Not really mid court as I remember but he walked down toward the opposing bench sort of along the sidelines.

My best is of the biggest shot in MU history---a one of a kind photo of Whitehead's 1977 buzzer beater, game winning tip-in on Cedric "Cornbread" Maxwell, of UNC Charlotte in the NCAA Semi's -- taken from a low enough angle to also show the scoreboard still with one second on the clock (tie score of 49/49)..and the ball away from Jerome's hand--proof of the tip in being good (most photos only have the shot--not the rafters/scoreboard, also).
My brother is an NBC TV news editor and the otherwise unpublished pic came over an old AP wire thermal fax to his station. Al McGuire signed the fax-photo for him-- and Al paused when signing it, smiling to my bro, and saying...."I guess this proves it".

I was there also. If you look at film as the buzzer went off on Championship Monday, you can see me storm the court. Actually have a string from the championship net.
And, Pa is right. Al walked the sideline during a timeout to about mid-court and gaged the scoreboard height, hey?

In my same gameroom I hang champ banners of MU 77 Packers (13), Rockets (2) and Astros 2017....but one is not of a champion.
